COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Famous in Michigan for farmhouse ales, our friends at Brewery Viviant introduced us to their biere de garde ale yeast strain. From there, we imagined a slightly tart, intentionally dry beer with hints of bergamot citrus that pairs perfectly with French cheeses.

The beer pours a hazy golden yellow color with a white head. The aroma is full of grain and wheat, with a hint of orange thrown in. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of juicy orange notes, as well as a ton of coriander and wheat. This beer tastes like a Belgian witbier on steroids. I like most of what I taste but there is too much coriander in the beer for me to be a huge fan. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours clear blonde with a nice orange white head and a fruity aroma. There is a fruity light malt flavor that is a bit sour with a strange spiced finish.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Color is light yellow with not much of a white head. Taste at the beginning is orange then goes into a weird herb funk aftertaste isn’t very good.

22 oz. bottle. Packaged on: 10/03/12. A clear amber pour with a smallish off-white head. A crisp, musty/funky aroma that features some lemons, apricots, peaches, dough, and cream. Goes down thin and fairly crisp. There is a mildly sweet cereal graininess upfront taste-wise. A bready middle with touches of vanilla cream that become more apparent as things warm up a bit. An orangey/lemony yeastiness and some juicy peaches at the end. The alcohol is hidden quite well. Odd. Not the most enjoyable thing out there.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2013 22oz bottle. The bottle says it all! Ale with a hint of orange. Well, yep. Aroma and taste are the same. Had a medium head that dissipated quickly. Hardly any meaningful lacing. Go ahead and detect the minutiae of this beer. I swear to god I read a review on here where the kid said he smelled cobwebs. This is a beer with a solid aroma of orange zest, malts, and cilantro. It also has a hint of caramel and an overall sweet bite. Finish is a bit too caramel. For the price, and for the presentation of "New Belgium + Viviant", I kinda expected more. A very good beer, please don?t get me wrong. I?ll honestly give it high marks and I think it?s very solid and drinkable. 9% alcohol.

On tap half pint at Gilly's Craft Beer & Wine in Rockville, MD. Clear amber with off-white head and amazing lacing that coats the entire glass. Aroma of orange, bread, hay, apple and caramel. Taste of hay, caramel, apple, tropical fruit and bread. Medium body and medium carbonation. Light, pleasant and refreshing. Hard to believe this is a 9% ABV beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear golden color. White head. Nice lacing. First taste reminds me of popcorn. Weird I know. I guess it's the yeast. It's interesting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at 16 Tons, Eugene. Pours a clear golden amber, slight head. Some lacing. Slight malt and citrus notes in the aroma. Mouthfeel is kind of slippery, yeast very prominent in finish. Not bad, not great. Glad to see NB pushing themselves via the Lips of Faith series. They can’t all be home runs, but if you don’t try, you can’t succeed.

Serving: Draft at Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a slightly greenish yellow with a slight white head. The nose is slightly floral an unusual herbal and citrus component. The flavor is spicy, slight earthy, with those herbal floral notes (I was thinking chrysanthemum but that’s not right. Perhaps that bergamot they mention in the description. Slightly catty as it warms and the alcohol seems to come out a bit more than you might like. The nose is unusually malt heavy as it warms, comparable to an imperial pilsner in my mind. The alcohol helps dry out the finish, but this one seems a little heavy on the tongue for the style. Interesting but not one I would return to.

On tap at Fountainhead. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has notes of crisp peach and grass with a prominent grain backbone. Flavor has more of a grain and cereal note throughout with a bit of a tart peach bite in the finish.
