COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Famous in Michigan for farmhouse ales, our friends at Brewery Viviant introduced us to their biere de garde ale yeast strain. From there, we imagined a slightly tart, intentionally dry beer with hints of bergamot citrus that pairs perfectly with French cheeses.

The 22oz bomber pours clear gold with an off white head of foam. The aroma is earthy gravel, orange, lemon and lime. Interesting and oddly inviting. The taste is smooth with earthy sweet apple to pear to orange like fruitiness with a gravel sort of earthiness off in the background. Enjoyable product with enough depth to keep it interesting.

On tap at Fountainhead. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has notes of crisp peach and grass with a prominent grain backbone. Flavor has more of a grain and cereal note throughout with a bit of a tart peach bite in the finish.

Bottle, shared with my in-laws. Hazy orange-tinted gold. Very doughy yeasty aroma, some brothy character like cooked noodles, lightly cheesy. Doughy, yeasty body of flavours, brightened by some orange and spice. Intriguing to me, but not a favourite.

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours clear blonde with a nice orange white head and a fruity aroma. There is a fruity light malt flavor that is a bit sour with a strange spiced finish.

Pour from a bottle at the brewery. Pours a bright, semi-cloudy gold that is deeper orange at the wider part of the glass and has a small white head. Notes of sweet and bready malts, melon, dried papaya, dry dough, and some farmhouse funk. Medium-bodied, with a sweet, dry, bready mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice BDG.

Tap at Crystal Beer Parlor, Savannah. It pours hazy orange-amber with a small white head. The nose is fresh orange, sherbet, candy, tinned peach, appetizer and lemon poppy seed muffin. The taste is zesty orange, lemon, earth, orange sponge cake, light spice, dough, some alcohol warmth and appletizer with a dry, bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slighty sticky mouth-feel. A touch on the sweet side, but prett tasty nonetheless. Decent stuff.

Bottle:   Orangish straw, pale haze, moderate frothy white head, little lacing.   Non-descript floral nose, a little honeydew melon perhaps.   Soft, musty, and warming like yeasty breadiness.   Has a soft floral aspect that is lighter than the nose suggested.   Not as musty or barnish as others, but with more punch and muted spicy bits.   Hard to believe this is actually 9%!   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Yeasty/doughy/bready finish, but not too heavy or musty.   Comes across as way lighter than the 9% implies.   A bit too easy to drink.   Enjoyed it more than those from France!

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cereal), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, apricot), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with strong notes of candy sugar / cotton candy, other notes of pear syrup, gum, unripe peach, egg whites. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Uhhhhh...wut? Biere de Garde? Not even close. "Intentionally dry"? Huh??? Compared to what, a mouthful of stevia? The harsh reality is that this is a goopy, syrupy sweet sugar bomb. Cloying and unbalanced and totally without any BdG traits. Awful and undrinkable. Gack!

Draft at ebp. Pours a hazy medium gole with a loose white head. Big funky nose--nice barnyard effect. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Tangy oranges, basement, and minerals on the mid palate. Dry and pretty interesting. Could be a little livelier and more complex.
