COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

22 oz bottle courtesy of Binnys South Loop and shared with a couple friends. Pours a well carbonated sunshine amber, decent white head that laces pretty well, fairly lively carbonated body. Aromas throw a combo of belgian yeast, a touch of spice, vanilla and honey. Initial is a bit floral, a bit funky but that doesn’t play a huge role. Vanilla, honey, belgian yeasty spice.. Flowers. Light, a touch of cinnamon, clove. Finishes dry, lightly bitter. Underlying sweetness and spice sticks to the palate. A decent effort, just a strange mishmash of styles for me.

Keg @ Billy Jack’s. Hazy light amber, small head. The nose is sweet caramel, malty sweetness. a bit of vanilla and marshmallow. The taste is spicy Belgian yeast. Dried wood.herbs. Some Mint. Caramel. Not much in the way of hop flavor. Full body, a bit hot. Overall, solid.

This pours out a light copper, almost golden colour. Smells primarily of cherries, but I also get a bit of licorice and basement funk. The taste of this beer hits the tongue with cherries and overripe peaches, however there is not much else I can detect. Finishes a bit like rice lager to create a complex and interesting taste profile

Pint at Bearden Beer Market. Clear amber pour with a medium off-white head. Caramel malt nose with mild tartness and Belgian esters. Malty and caramelly flavor with milt tartness before an estery banana finish.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2004 Bottle: A large white bubbly froth sits atop a cloudy orangish hued glass of goodness. Very interesting yeasty flavor, with some lemony/peppery/floral accents. Maybe a bit of cloves thrown in. Very sticky... flavor is retained for some time after finishing. I detect some other spices as well... hard to put my finger/tongue on it. Very enjoyable.

Great appearance with huge head and lacing. Aroma hinted of citrus, grains, and a tart yeast. Spicey and tart on the palate, finish clean. Very enjoyable and unique style when done right.
