All it took was a six-week sabbatical in Southeast Asia and one lucky guess for us all to enjoy Billy’s Beer. The newest winner of our co-worker taste-off, cellarman Billy Bletcher, brewed a spicy tart of a beer for summertime sipping. Full of pale malt, Amarillo and Centennial hops, kiwi fruit and Thai ginger, this beer pours a hazy straw with pillows of bright, white foam. Lots of bold tropical citrus on the nose, and a flavor full of puckering fruit, all tied together with an American Hefeweizen yeast for a very dry and very strong puncher of a beer.

On tap at Flix Brewhouse. Golden pour with a white head. The aroma has a lot of kiwi and ginger notes going on. The flavor is heavy on the ginger with some teriyaki and orange citrus notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Draft sample at the New Belgium tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 7/18/14. Cloudy orange in color with a medium white head. Aroma of cooked fruit, wheat, malt and tropical fruit. Mango and wheat flavor with a tart finish.

4 oz draft pour at ChurchKey. Poured a slightly hazy yellow color, some light orange hues with a slightly off-white head. Aroma was kiwi, some citrus and a touch of ginger. Flavor had a much more gnger character than I would have wished for, still pretty drinkable for 10%.

Not particularly good. Comes together cloudy golden with good head and lacing. Reminds me kind of like that nuclear chemical reaction in Carlsbad. If you know elements are going to react badly together, why mix them? 10% booze with kiwi and ginger. Tap at brewery feature at Churchkey.

Pour on tap, clear yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, biscuit, hints of herbal notes into some pepper, touch of ginger, spice, slight earth, touch of bready and yeasty notes. Taste is a mix of yeast, bread, hints of ginger, spice, pepper, slight herbal notes into some white fruit, finishing fairly spicy, dry.

Soft hazy blonde pour with one finger of white head. Nose is super tart with some spice and tropical fruit. Some lychee too. Weird flavor, strange acidity and fruit skin notes. Light grainy notes. Light bodies.

Tap at the fed. Pours a deep glowing, hazy orange amber with a thin white webby lace. Nose of light ginger, sour fruit, fresh Amarillo hops, vaguely reminiscent of a lighter le terroir but not nearly as tart or hop-full. Flavor is a little wishy washy--some tea, orange juice from concentrate, ginger. Not bad, but sorta ho hum, wushy washy, etc. Oh well, this still has more character and is better conceived than most of the lips of Faith beers coming out these days.
