COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
New Belgium Brewing and The Lost Abbey brewery from San Marcos, California have a shared passion for a variety of things, not the least of which is the wild Belgian yeast brettanomyces. So they decided to join forces and collaborate. Lost Abbey Collaboration is brewed simply with pale malts accompanied by Target, Centennial and Sorachi hops for a hint of citrus. Focusing on their mutual respect for the ingredient, the spotlight shines on the brettanomyces, where a full brett fermentation offers bold pineapple overtones and funky, sour edge. The beer is a shining, golden shade and is warming and dry. Lost Abbey Collaboration is available on draft and in 22-ounce bombers.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a hazy yellow color with a large, pillowy, white head. The nose has some musty yeast and brett notes. The flavor is very saison like. Light and airy. Slight metallic off note. A little slick on the tongue with slight florals on the back end. Not much sour or wild about it. Not very congruent either.

Bottle (bomber)from a trade with heyta. Hazy golden, medium white head. Bready and bisquity malt aroma, some floral, perfumy and fruity notes. Medium bodied, medum carbonation. Semi sweet (!) with medium bitterness.

Funky overripe pear and lemon zest. Hazy amber, medium head. Medium bodied, slightly more heat than seems necessary. Pear is dominant, with peachy accents. Fruity and tasty, but not really funky, little brett.

Tap. Very hazy gold. Looks like grapefruit juice. Maybe a slight hint of brett? Not sour at all. Sweet and mild. Was hoping for more. Disappointing

Hazy golden-yellow body, moderate white foam, streaky lacing. Nose is citric with lemon and some pineapple. Wheat, grain, and some fruity yeast are present. I am not getting any Brett character. Medium bodied, mellow carbonation, slightly sweet, rounded finish. If you want to call a beer "Brett Beer" make sure it highlights all of the complexity that Brett can deliver--must, funk, wet hay, spice, earth... at least give me some of it.

Bottle. Hazy gold with a medium, foamy white head. Aroma is dusty yeast, light earthiness, funky notes, ripe fruits, and sweet malt. Taste is surprisingly on the sweeter side of things with ripe fruits, tropical fruit notes, sweet malt, dusty yeast, flowery notes and soft cake notes. Body is medium with a dense, bubbly carbonation and a light stickiness. Ends with more sweet malt, ripe fruits, tropical fruit, yeast notes, slight earthy hops, light peppery notes and sponge cake. Damn tasty!

Bottle. Pours golden orange with a white head. Light fruity base, with some lemony and floral notes, and a nice bretty funk that only really shows up as it warms up a bit. Decent.

Bottle, 10/01/2012. Pours golden orange, medium white head with decent retention, lacing curtains down around the edge. Aroma is light brett, funky pale malts like soggy cheerios, mild citrus and pineapple hops, slight herbal spicy edge. Taste follows suit- yeasty, funky maltiness , nice citrus hop profile with light bitterness, brett finish. Light body, medium carbonation. Ok, a little strange- not quite saison, not quite Belgian, not super wild.

22 ounce bottle thanks to Thomas. Light and yeasty. Sorachi hops give off that yeasty flavor as well. Some fruit. Brett pretty hidden. I’m not sure which of these two was better. Both are pretty tame and mild.

Bottle. For some reason I bought this; I suppose its because for some reason I still have faith in Lost Abbey. Apparently I shouldnt, because while I could drink this beer, all I could think about was how uninteresting or unoriginal it was. Has a nice fruity smell, but there is really very little sourness and a heaping mess of carbonation. Bleh. Wish I would have bought a 6 pack of ranger instead.
