COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, itís brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.

Hops: Hallertauer Hersbrucker-Nobel, Styrian-Golding-Nobel
Malts: Pale, Munich, Caramel Munich, Biscuit, Black
Fruits/Spice: Belgium Amber Candy Sugar, Date Sugar, Cascara Tea
Body: Medium-Heavy
Aroma: Ripe figs, raisins, plums, black cherries, toffee, chocolate, pipe tobacco, rich Corinthian leather and leather bound books.
Mouthfeel: Starts big and smooth, finishes still smooth yet the cascara tea and higher ABV will bring a nice dry warm end to this epic novel.
Flavor: Sweet and rich, huge complex overall taste.
Visual: Brooding, dark, cloudy berry brown with tan head.

Brown sugar, caramel, cinnamon aroma. Deep brown with a copper hue. Extremely sweet flavors of candied caramel, roasted sugar, amber malts and burnt toffee. Bland coffee/mocha finish. Overall, very simple. Way too sweet caramel, toffee, candy flavors.Itís like sucking on sugar. Iíd give this a D- rating.

Mahogany colored pour with an off-white head. The nose is highly sweet and quite boozy as well. Alcohol, chocolate, dates, plums, and raisins. Brown sugar, hints of vanilla, and tea. Big sweetness and alcohol to the flavor, too. Brown sugar, dates, plums, raisins, and cherries. Some chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, and vanilla. Mild earthiness and perhaps tobacco from the tea.

Pours dark amber with a frothy head but doesnít have too complex of an aroma. Basically only sweet notes on both the nose and the tongue, Finishes weakly. The description does more for the beer than the beer itself does.

22. Pours a murky rubied dark amber with a dense and creamy tan head. Sweet sticky nose, some caramel and a bit of sugary fruitiness. Sticky thin body with soft carb. Lots of sticky caramel, a little coffee bitterness, some mild fruitiness. Thin, thrown together, and disappointing.

Bomber from Bev4Less. Pours a brown-tan color, a little like liquified dates. Nice little off-white head, with decent retention due largely to the endless stream of bubbles riding up the side of the glass. Aromas are malty and thick... just a touch of dark fruits... dates come through more than the cherries, although a second whiff does reveal a touch of it. Taste is disappointing. Tartness is right up front, which I didnít expect. Then it transitions nicely to the dark fruits (dates, I guess) followed by the rich ABV burn. Mouthfeel is pretty creamy, palate is decent, if duodimensional. Overall, nice. Interesting. Solid, but not great.

22 oz. bottle. Packaged on: 01/16/13. Best enjoyed by August 2014. Pours a murky rust color with a smallish antique white head. The aroma features some caramel, candi sugar, figs, raisins, plums, hints of chocolate, tobacco leaves, vanilla extract, dried cherries, leather, and some spiciness. Full-bodied and smooth on the way down. Lots of rich caramel, dates, raisins, and molasses upfront in the taste. Some bitter chocolate, dried cherries, vanilla extract, and figs at the end. Earthy. Wintry spices abound. Plenty of boozy alcohol warmth from start to finish. Not really my thing, but interesting nonetheless.

Pours a dark red brown. Sweet malt and spice aroma: vanilla, clove, cherries, and pit fruit. Malt is very sweet - clearly the work of Belgian candi sugar. Finishes with spice notes with a tinge of barrel age. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bready and crisp like a quad should be, with multiple "special" additional ingredients. What results is a cherry sweetness which, instead of being soured, is offset by the astringency of alcohol and coffee and the bitterness of the hops. Itís a take on sour beer that strikes me as overwhelmingly creative and worthwhile, because the flavors work so well together. Itís recognizable, yet unfamiliar.

Bomber pours a murky brown with red highlights. Has a lasting beige head with good lacing. Smells like raisin bread. Aroma has cherries, dark fruits, molasses, tobacco, and bread. Taste is sweet all the way through, almost like artificial cherry-flavored cough syrup. Lots of alcohol in the finish. Body is medium to full with lively carbonation. New Beligium tried for complexity here and ended up with something difficult to drink. Worth a try at this price point, though.

At Avery Strong Ale Fest 2013--Slightly hazy copper with a thin white head. Aroma of dark Belgian grains bringing a dusty toffee essence, but also this odd earthy berry note from I assume the cascara. Earthy flavor with Belgian toffee malt, raisins, earthy berries, and an English old-ale style finish of dusty honey.
