COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.

Hops: Hallertauer Hersbrucker-Nobel, Styrian-Golding-Nobel
Malts: Pale, Munich, Caramel Munich, Biscuit, Black
Fruits/Spice: Belgium Amber Candy Sugar, Date Sugar, Cascara Tea
Body: Medium-Heavy
Aroma: Ripe figs, raisins, plums, black cherries, toffee, chocolate, pipe tobacco, rich Corinthian leather and leather bound books.
Mouthfeel: Starts big and smooth, finishes still smooth yet the cascara tea and higher ABV will bring a nice dry warm end to this epic novel.
Flavor: Sweet and rich, huge complex overall taste.
Visual: Brooding, dark, cloudy berry brown with tan head.

Poured from bottle into a tulip glass. Pours an opaque amber/brown with a moderate tan head and some lacing. Aroma is of dark fruits, cherries, and candi sugars. Taste is sweet with dark fruits and somewhat boozy. Mouthfeel is a little sharp on the front and a lingering sensation in the roof of the mouth. Was expecting it to be a bit smoother and silkier for a quad.

Strange beer. Had a beautiful rusty brown color with white head and nice lacing. The aroma was heavy booze, reminiscent of hot buttered rum. Nice cherries, tobacco, and brown sugar. Very warming. The mouthfeel was flat and grainy, like the bitter part of the pecan.

22oz, thanks again Dad! Pours orange/amber with a light Carmel colored head. Nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of candied fruits, cherry, booze, burnt sugar, and a touch of estery spice. The flavor is mild and somewhat of a letdown. Caramel, candied fruit, light spice, and warming alcohol for the flavor. This tastes somewhat like a homebrewed stron ale that I made before years ago. Nice carbonation and easy to drink dispite the abv. Confusing beer

Bomber over at Brett’s house. Dark brown pour with slight head. Aroma is sweet dark fruit and sugar. Tastes are caramel malts, floral, toffee, cherry, earthy. Didn’t do much for us.

Amber color with a thin sticky beige head. Fruity nose with lots of alcohol. Boozy beer with raisins, rich cherry, cocoa and alcohol. I didn’t really get any coffee out of here. Very white sugar sweet. A bit thinner that the quads from Belgium. This beer leaves a hot alcohol burn on the tongue.

Pours a ruby umber color with a finger of eggshell foam. The nose is sweet maraschino cherries, cough syrup and dates. On the palate its a lot of the same with a weirdly boozy cough syrup flavor with notes of cherry syrup, date and a sticky mouthfeel. Just overdone.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2013 Rusty Brown with minimal aroma. Taste is sweet with Apple and pear esters and a cloying "homebrew" fermentation character.

On tap at St Augustine’s on The Drive in Vancouver. A deep bronze color with a bit of whitish head. Fruits on the nose. The taste is complex and fruity, with hints of aromatic spice, perhaps clove. A very decent quadrupel, but not a great one. I guess my perfect quad would be Trappistes Rochefort 10.

(Pint) Sampled at the New Belgium post-GBCF2013 party at Irish Times. Pours a lasting white frothy head with a deep mahogany body. Highly bubblegum nose. Crazy this isn’t a quad - full of marshmallow aroma and the flavour is a full palate of sweet malt. Good.
