COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.

Hops: Hallertauer Hersbrucker-Nobel, Styrian-Golding-Nobel
Malts: Pale, Munich, Caramel Munich, Biscuit, Black
Fruits/Spice: Belgium Amber Candy Sugar, Date Sugar, Cascara Tea
Body: Medium-Heavy
Aroma: Ripe figs, raisins, plums, black cherries, toffee, chocolate, pipe tobacco, rich Corinthian leather and leather bound books.
Mouthfeel: Starts big and smooth, finishes still smooth yet the cascara tea and higher ABV will bring a nice dry warm end to this epic novel.
Flavor: Sweet and rich, huge complex overall taste.
Visual: Brooding, dark, cloudy berry brown with tan head.

Draft at the brewery. Pours a mostly clear amber with a small off-white head. Big caramel and dried fruit (dates, figs, raisins) notes, with cherry juice, candi sugar, and boozy bread. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, coating mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Good American quad.

Tap at the Refuge in San Carlos as part of a quad flight

How many bad experiences will it take before I clue in and stop trying NB lips of faith series? Eric’s ale was so good that I just don’t learn no matter how many bad examples I suffer through. Deep amber pour, slightly funky, NB house character with metallic (copper) finish. Maraschino cherries come through late. Unimpressive.

Bottle. Hazy amber/purple pour with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, toffee, alcohol. Flavor is sweet, a little hot. Dark fruits and raisins. Belgian yeast character. Fairly one note for all that. Just ok.

Understand that they’re trying to compete with the motherland, but not quite there. too sweet and sugary.

Poured at New Bohemia in Mpls. An attempt at a Belgian quadrupel but I would stop short of calling it a successful one. Tastes of plum, sweet, and alcohol but balance seems to be off. Like a drunk gymnast on the beam. Bitter aftertaste. Not recommended.

22 oz bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear liquid caramel color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, Belgian candy, dates, caramel, a hint of cherry and some alcohol. The flavor has some additional roast that comes from the coffee. Somewhat dry on the finish.

Pours clear orange/amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits, spices and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long warm, fruits, caramel finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 22oz. A hazy, dark amber beer with a small, dense, dark beige head. A lightly unclear, dark amber beer with a small, off-white head. Some toffee-like aromas, with berries and dried fruits and a touch of oxidation. Oxidized caramel and toffee notes in the flavor, not much bitterness going on. Full body, pleasant carbonation. If it wasn’t for the oxidation, it’d be a fine brew. Really fine. 130811

22 ounce bottle, label says best enjoyed by August 2014. Served in a chalice, the beer pours a burnt orange/brown color with about a half inch light tan head. The head sticks around for a long time, and there’s also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, it smells mostly like cherries and dates (really just a lot of dark fruit in general), along with pears, cloves, and some tobacco. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like dark fruit (cherries, dates, plums), dark bread, caramel, candy sugar, pears, and peppery spice. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s coating and creamy with a good amount of soft carbonation. I think it’s a good overall brew, I liked it. $6.99 a bottle, definitely worth trying at that price.
