Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.

Hops: Hallertauer Hersbrucker-Nobel, Styrian-Golding-Nobel
Malts: Pale, Munich, Caramel Munich, Biscuit, Black
Fruits/Spice: Belgium Amber Candy Sugar, Date Sugar, Cascara Tea
Body: Medium-Heavy
Aroma: Ripe figs, raisins, plums, black cherries, toffee, chocolate, pipe tobacco, rich Corinthian leather and leather bound books.
Mouthfeel: Starts big and smooth, finishes still smooth yet the cascara tea and higher ABV will bring a nice dry warm end to this epic novel.
Flavor: Sweet and rich, huge complex overall taste.
Visual: Brooding, dark, cloudy berry brown with tan head.

Pours a malty brown color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is cherry and malt. The taste is pretty gross to be honest. There’s nothing reminiscent of a Quad here, no coffee, just weird. There’s a flavor of dates I think. Syrupy and thick, sort of sweet, all sorts of gross. New Belgium failed on this one.

Sample at Bodega during the "Beer Romance w/ New Belgium Brewer" event on 07/23/2016. The beer is a hazy brownish-orange color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily to a wispy film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of dark cherries, yeast and malt. The finish is figs, cherries and earthy yeast. Decent overall.

Pours a dark amber color with a thick white head. Aroma is caramel, booze, cherry, malt, candy, spice, date, figs, plum, toffee. Taste is cherry and candied beans, plum, fig sweetness, warm spices, and plenty of booze. You feel the burn with this one. Very interesting beer, good, but you wouldn’t want a lot of it.

Poured a lighter brown with a beige head. Aroma was of caramel, booze and earthy hops. Flavor similar, too sweet, too bitter, too boozy.

Listed as Barrel Aged, but I suspect this is the proper rating. Anyway, on tap at the 2015 Holiday Ale Fest. A cloudy brown red color with a large white head. A big malty berry nose. The flavor is cherries, yeasty, vanilla, some heat and vanilla. Solid.

Draft (10 oz.). Opaque dark caramel color with thin tan head and substantial lacing. Toffee and caramel aroma. Figs and cherries upfront with alcohol in the finish. Lighter body than expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Oh my gosh cherries. Tart beautiful cherry aroma. Pours slightly cloudy and a brownish read with a lacy head. Taste is super sweet, with cherries very present. There’s some bitterness that lingers and I can’t tell what from? Fruit? Really thin and bubbly. The problem(???) with this beer is that I can’t taste the style. It’s just a delicious cherry ale. The alcohol burn starts asserting itself halfway in. Great otherwise.
