Pure rock fury meets Belgian-style brewed folly in this collaboration with Maryland hard-rockers, Clutch. A pronounced bass line of dark chocolate, coffee and black malts bridge the sourness of our dark wood ale for a fluid riff.

Draught at Bottleworks, Seattle; 9.5% ABV
Very dark color, with beige compact head. Lean, but very rich in dry dark chocolate, the aroma has vinous characteristics, lightly oxidized, like a Madeira, with very moderate acidity, and some wood component.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out intense tart dark fruits (figs and dates), brown sugar and a touch of vinegar. Flavour is lightly tart, with loads of dried dark fruits, chocolate and a little woodiness. Complex and wonderfully balanced. This is really like lightly tart chocolate covered dried fruits. Excellent.

Draft at falling rock in Denver. Very nice balance of the stout base and sour blend. Not really a sour, though if you like sours, definitely worth a taste. Black, mild aroma, notes of chocolate and malt with the slight sour finish.

"had Kick first, then clutch. surprised to learn after the fact that this is indeed only 20% sour ale, and 80% stout, which is pretty much what it tastes like. they do the dark roasty goodness well, especially in the aroma, but i will admit i was hoping for a more sour & funky brew. kick advertised on the bottle that only 25% was wood aged, but this only said dark sour, and the sour definitely was taking the back seat. just hints of fruit, oak, and wild yeast in the arom and a touch more on the back end of the flavor. a good beer, not quite as advertised, and a tad expensive for a "good" kida sour stout."

22 oz bottle pour split. Pours super dark with a cocoa, dark fruit aroma. Dark fruit flavor, a little raisin, and some plum. Slightly sour, with a mild dark chocolate background. Not as sour as I was expecting, but doesn’t change the fact that this is a good beer. The bottle calls this a "sour ale", but I don’t think I would classify it as that. Again, good beer though.

Cocoa aroma with Belgian yeast as well. Some dark fruit aromas and flavors. Very mild sourness but overall a full flavored stout with some fruit backbone. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
