3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 beernbourbon (1146) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - SEP 24, 2011Bottle. Pour is dark dark brown with a with a thin ring of tan foam. Aroma is light cherry, light chemicals, light coffee and a touch of roasted malt. Flavor is deep roasted malt with smooth notes of dark fruit and hints of coffee. Not getting too much in the way of sourness. There is a very faint tart note that chimes in right before the long roasted malt finish. Solid. Not quite what I was expecting.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Damico (1913) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 11, 2013
Pours unclear dark chestnut brown with a big creamy beige head. Aroma brings some smoky notes and tangy yeast. The flavor is not very sour as I expected, but the alcohol and boy are smooth. There is a more toasted malt profile than tanginess of the Belgian yeast. There is more wood type malt flavor than coffee.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 devilben02 (248) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 14, 2013
Pours a dense dark brown that looks about the same color as it did in the (brown) bottle. The aroma has some light grains and a bit of lactose-like sweetness. It’s not bad, but it is just not much. The flavor has a rather complex yet somehow unexciting combination of mild apple tartness up front, some moderately roasted malts in the finish, and faint hints of chocolate and wood that creep in as the beer opens up. The texture is fairly light and smooth, which allows a light lingering woodiness to develop. Despite this beer’s subtle complexity, however, it just doesn’t provide much payoff, particularly for its high ABV.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 rpaskie (16) - Alabama, USA - JAN 2, 2013
Pours dark brown with some red/amber hues. Smells of cocao, coffee, porter/stout. I was hoping for much more sourness. It is very full bodied with a big mouthfeel. Tastes like a decent brown ale with just a tinge of tartness. Notes of tart cherries, dark chocolate, coffee. A little disapointed.

The beer is opaque and dark brown colored, with a small, tan head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. The aroma offers roast, chocolate, cherries, and a light funk. Taste is decent, but a bit odd. Not sure the roast and sour combination is working. Cherries and alcohol linger in the aftertaste. Overall, interesting and worth a try, though I wouldn’t go out of my way to have it again.

Bottle. Pours a near black with ruby highlights and a medium light tan head that is gone fairly quickly. Aroma is a mix of roast and dark sweet fruit. Taste is sweet and lightly tart. There is mix of sweet and roasted malt and nuts, dark chocolate, coffee and raisin, tart cherry, a little balsamic woodiness. In the mouth, its medium full and a bit heavy, with moderate carbonation. Finishes both sweet and tart. On the sweet side, would’ve preferred more sour, but pretty good.

On tap at the Rackhouse Pub. Dark black color, a little head. Smells very roasty, all stout in the smell. The flavor hit me at first with some sour but then it really blended in with the roasted malt stout-like flavor. This was interesting but I preferred Kick and would probably never order this again.

On tap 1/2 pint at Gilly's Craft Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD.
Opaque deep brown with tan head and very good lacing.
Aroma of dark cherries, light roasted malt and Gamay wine.
Taste of slightly tart and slightly sweet roasted malt, Gamay, Zinfandel and pie cherries.
Medium/full body with medium carbonation. Nice mouthfeel.
Different, interesting and once you get used to it, far too easy too drink.
