Say hola to a spiced up ale full of cocoa and ancho, guajillo, chipotle peppers. But don’t fear the heat, because plenty of caramel and chocolate malts bring a smooth, complex flavor. Scents of cinnamon when poured will have your saying "ˇOle For Mole!"

Pleasantly surprised by this as the Lips of Faith series has been hit or miss for me. This ones an easy double, maybe a triple. Dark clear obsidian pour creates a small latte head. Ample carbonation. Aroma of freshly baked brownies and gooey caramel. Flavor shows a lot of complexity and balance. Fudge, cinnamon sticks and a healthy dose of chili pepper heat impact the tongue. Capsiason lights up the taste buds a bit but is not overwhelming. The cocoa, toffee and brown sugar notes definitely tame it down. A little thin but absolutely delicious!

Appearance is medium dark, somewhat lifeless. Smell is of peppers, some malt, cocoa. Taste is of sweetness and peppers. Nice aftertaste. Very different beer.

Pours a motor oil black with a oily brown head. Aromas of chilis, coffee, and some chocolate. Astringent chocolate and coffee flavor, not much chili.

Great chile and cinnamon flavor. Smooth for the ABV. A contender for the crown established by Stone Xocoveza

Appearance: clear brown with one finger of loose light beige head diminishing rapidly to a thin ring, patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: roasty malts, chocolate, red berries, chilli pepper, caramel, cinnamon? (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter, mild spice. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry building spicy finish. (3/5) Not radically dissimilar to e.g. Prairie Artisan’s Christmas Bomb!, in that it has a decently integrated chilli spice, but the thinner body and lighter chocolate flavours don’t seem to work quite as well. Certainly I’m not getting the impression of Mexican hot chocolate or mole (molé? my research indicates no) sauce the way I did with Christmas Bomb! The upside here is that although the spice builds, it never becomes overwhelming. Pleasant, but not overly memorable. (13/20)

brown with reddish highlights and a quickly dissipating head; roasted malt aroma with chili spice and alcohol notes; chocolate notes in the aroma come out more as it warms; semi sweet roasted malt with chocolate notes, chilis, and warm alcohol notes; just a bit of heat from the chilis; lots of chocolate and burnt brown sugar notes and slightly smoky chipotle notes

Poured from bomber into snifter. Pours a dark brown you can just barely see through with an almost white head; head dissipates but never goes away. Aroma is like Mexican hot chocolate - cocoa with sweet/spicy pepper notes. Taste - cocoa, slight spice that lingers throughout the finish, just enough to encourage another drink. Really tasty!

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark mahogany brown color with a reddish hue and topped by a small layer of beige colored foam that settles slowly to a thin film and leaving patches of lace around the glass. The aroma shows notes of cocoa powder, cinnamon, and chili pepper spices with an underlying tone of earthy roast, and toasted caramel and toffee sweetness. The peppers are quite prevalent in the nose, but come across more as spice as opposed to whole peppers. The flavor follows with the dark cocoa and toasted caramel and toffee malts showing a nice sweetness up front and then washed away by the cinnamon, and chili pepper spices. The peppers add a good amount of spice and a touch of heat through out, while notes of vanilla act to balance things out. Medium bodied and fairly smooth with moderate carbonation that leads to a lingering spicy pepper finish with a touch of heat. This is a solid and well made spiced Porter. Tasty stuff.

Poured into a snifter. 3.5 A: Black color. One finger of frothy tan head. Retention is about average and a short ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Oh yeah, the peppers are in this. Big peppery vegetal nose that works so well. Layers of cocoa powder and milk chocolate. Caramel and roastiness underneath. Just as advertised. 4.0 T: Pepper flavor is the dominant flavor. The heat is minor and mainly manifests as a subtle afterburn. Again lots of chocolate and cocoa powder. Caramel with a light apple fruitiness. Well done. 3.75 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy with a warming finish. 4.0 D: I really love chile beers. This is a market that needs expanded. This is a good one. ★ 721 characters DavoleBomb, Apr 03, 2015

Rating #1483 - 07.03.2015 - Bottle from Sherbrooke - Opaque dark brown/black pour with a bubbly head that fades quickly. Aroma is toasted oak, chocolate, espresso. Mild carbonation, medium-heavy alcohol warmth (could be the heat-heat). Palate is more chocolatey roasty malt, and a fiery chipotle heat. Rip-roaring spicy stout at 9%. Nice.
