Coconut Curry Hefeweizen has been pouring down the history of American Home Brewing for many years, from the legendary Charlie Papazian to the 2010 National Homebrewer, Remi Bonnart. The latter helped New Belgium brew this hazy, straw-colored gem to life. The aroma is bold and big with coconut and curry tones and a hint of banana from the hefe yeast. With a vast spice list of cinnamon, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, kaffir lime, and cayenne pepper this beer carries a bit of heat but the alcohol soothes the finish. Coconut Curry Hefe will leave an inquisitive smile on the drinker’s mug.

Bottled. Not a fan in general of hefes so take the following with a grain of salt. Pours hazy gold with a small head. Aroma is a crazy mess of curry powder, coconut, banana and bubblegum. Flavor starts sweet and unlike good Thai food the spices seem to fight each other rather than work together. Finishes with lots of carbonation.

Cloudy tan. Thin head. Aroma is so full of phenols I can’t smell anything else. Sweet, yeasty, a hint of tartness, cinnamon and just a whack of phenols. The mouthfeel also has a bit of fattiness from the coconut.

22 oz bottle. I has the aromas of coconut, curry, bananas, wheat & vanilla. It pours a hazy yellow with almost no head. It tastes like it’s description, a hefeweizen with curry, coconut and a lot of other spices. I have to say that a bomber of this is real nice. I’m really glad that I didn’t brew this and have over 2 cases of it to drink. The flavors do seem to work together pretty well.

Bottle. Moderate cereal for the malt, light to moderate orange for the hops, dough and broth for yeast, with coconut milk and maharajah curry powder. Head is small, frothy and chunky, white with a spot or two of lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy medium yellow/amber with a thick amount of tiny bits swimming and floating. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy, with a soft to lively carbonation, and finishes with some spicy heat. Not a big fan of beers with off the wall adjuncts in it, but this one definitely works for me.

Bottle. Hazy deep golden liquid with medium white head. Aroma of chili, coconut, clove, banana, bubblegum and perfume. Taste is dry to light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of chili, banana, bubblegum, pepparkaka, coconut and grain. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Much better than I thought.

Linköping Beer Expo 2014. Cloudy golden beer with a small offwhite head. Spicy curry aroma, caramel, mint, floral, some chocolate. Mont flavor, curry, coconut, lots of thai food. Extremely odd and not that good.

Cloudy yellow color. Smells of dough and Indian food. Coconut first then the curry comes over it then it blends to the fade. Weird but good, really lives up to the name.

On tap at Toronado. Pour is hazy golden with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor are both of spice, coconut milk, bananas, and candi sugar. Sweet and spicy, interesting, but not something I’d go back to.

bottle. Deep golden with one finger head. Sweet coconut is quite prominent. The curry is very forward, but mild in heat. I suspect there’s no actual cinnamon, but I catch something cinnamon-like. It’s very good, but I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to have it again
