Ericís Ale, named for long time New Belgium brewer Eric Salazar, combines a dry, sour beer aged up to three years in oak foeders with a semi sweet, higher alcohol base beer. The resulting blend is re-fermented with peach juice, creating a smooth ale with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.

"sampled at Sac Brewing Co. iíve yet to have a current La Folie (the base for this beer), the three iíve had were at least several months to 2 1/2 years old...the older, the more sour. That being said, this beer had none of the woody aspects the 2008 La Folie had. Great complex nose, though. Sour, a little, but the peach was a nice addition here. Same body, maybe even a little tamer (ie-less carbonated). Flavor was good too, but lacking the sour kick all 3 La Folies had. So overall, a hair less than LF in the flavor, mellower for sure, but still a very good beer with a wonderful aroma."

Thanks for this one in a trade with a77cj7, cheers Chris! A: pours a nice apple juice color with the same degree of clarity. Less than single finger soap sud head which dissipates within the minute leaving a thin, broken sheet of the same on the surface. No lacing. S: Up front sour beer. Nicely soured with sweetness from the peaches coming through and offering a nice complement. Not overbearing, but good acuity. Nice. T: Tart, but again, somewhat sweet. Not as sweet as say Duchess de Bourg, which is good. The beer offers lower peach tones than I had anticipated, but the hue still exists. Finish has a slight funk to it. Again, nice. A few minutes into this and the peaches are more evident. This is also good. M: Medium body, medium carbonation. Makes mouth water with the tartness. D: Very drinkable. Actually a sour I wouldnít be reserved to serve with food. Very good. Serving type: bottle 03-17-2011

12/20/2010: New Belgium Ericís Sour Peach Ale (Wood-Aged Ale with Peach Juice)... Aroma: Mostly just vinegar. Appearance: Shiny orange color with an off-white crown. Flavor: Sour and puckering at first with a very faint tangy fruitiness coming through; no distinct peach. Palate: Medium-light body; smooth and calm. Overall: Just okay; I was hoping for more peach...

On tap a Brouwers Cafe sour fest. Pours a clear yellowish orange color with a medium white head that leaves really good lacing. Smells of peach, oak, vanilla and tropical. Tastes of the same things in the smell but was very tart. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation and a dry finish. It was great to finally try this sour. New Belgium definitely knows how to make great sours. The sour, peach, and oak combo worked really well together.

Pours clearer amber with an orange hue and decent brighter white head. The aroma brings clean sweeter peaches, not a big presence of tart yeast as expected. The flavor brings lightly sweetened and tart peaches that are soft on the tongue, not puckering at all with a light tangy ending that goes down smooth.

22oz bottle: pours a clear deep golden with a stringy-lacing froth of white head. Has a tart vinous oaky nose with good floral peach accents. Starts with good fullness and effervescence with some light malty sweetness and complex puckering vinous oak with some light fruitiness before a drier crisp finish. Well-balanced and true to style.

Bottle at home in celebration of the ending of busy season, courtesy of Todd......Huge thanks for this one man!!!! Pour is hazy orange with a fluffy cream head and decent lacing. Big sour peaches, tangerines, orange peel, biscuit, straw, light grass, lemon peel, a touch of funk, and green apples in the aroma. Taste is big fruit skin, peaches, tart fruits, biscuit, pears, apples, light pepper, hay, a touch of funk, and lacto with a lightly tart finish. Medium body with high carbonation. This one held up well and had great sourness, although, I am sure the fruit flavors would have been much more apparent when fresh - still a great beer and held up well over time. I am glad I got a chance to rate this one.

Catching up with an old 2010 rating - thanks to Jwale73! Pours a deep gold with a mild head that goes to a ring. Smell is malt sweetness, sour, peach, some fruitiness. Taste is a nice play between fruit and tart sour with a slightly dry ending. Light body with nice carbonation - finely structured.
