Ericís Ale, named for long time New Belgium brewer Eric Salazar, combines a dry, sour beer aged up to three years in oak foeders with a semi sweet, higher alcohol base beer. The resulting blend is re-fermented with peach juice, creating a smooth ale with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.

draft at Stone Brewery, pale cloudy yellow mildy tangerine color, thin white head, aroma is tartness, flavor is quite tart and sour, peach flavors are not very evident, bugs must have ate all the fruit, I enjoy the quality of the sours and the intensity of the sours, this is not the overwhelming geuze style that Iíve had many times over that are sometimes difficult to swallow more than 6 ounces of, this was quite drinkable and went well with the tikka masala I ate with it, good stuff!

Wifeís draft at Victoriaís Gastropub in Columbia, MD served in a tulip glass; tad hazy, slightly orange hued golden color with thin white lacing. Aroma notes of peach fruit, citrus, sour tart and tad oak. Taste adds more fruitiness, light vanilla, earthy yeast and faint spices. Medium body, low carbonation, dry, tannic with tart fruit finish. Tastes lighter than itís ABV, somewhat subtle but still an excellent sour.

Bomber. Peach/fruit juice flavors really pop with this midly tart brew. Barrel is noticeable and adds a bit of depth. A bit costly, but nice nonetheless.

bottle. Deep golden with one finger head. Moderately tart with a lot of sweet peach fruitness. Oaky and reasonably complex. Not amazing, but not far off either. Solid mildly sour offering that Iíd imagine would appeal to many drinkers.

Lactic sour aroma and flavor with an almost funky peachy taste in there too. Peach is a nice authentic peach but it almost adds a funk with the sour. Not too sour, maybe 4 or 5 of 10 sour. Some woody flavors. Nice moderate sour. Not too full bodied and sour but not too light of a sour either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy golden with a wee white ring of foam around the edge of the glass. Really pleasant nose of peach and sour yeast and a wee kiss of barrel. Strong flavor of peach and apricot and tart sourness, a touch of wood on the dry tart fruity finish. More complex than I thought it would be.

Bottle to glass. Pours a slightly hazy light orange color with an off white head. Aroma is mildly tart, dry. Flavor has a nice tartness to it, but well balanced with a tropical fruity sweetness. Solid beer.

Drinking Ericís Ale caused me to ask a crucial question. How did New Belgium manage to liquefy Sweet Tarts? Ericís Ale has that perfect mix of sweet/sour dynamics. Even the texture is similar. Ericís Ale is bone dry from the alcohol yet spritzy from the carbonation. While Iíd love to taste this again to pick up on more of the complexities, I totally enjoyed the candy-like flavors.

I do not care for sours at all....that being said of the handful of this style that i have tried this is by far the most enjoyable....not to sour and flavor was decent.
