3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 dumontn (529) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - NOV 21, 2011
Pours crystal clear god with rich dense head and great retention. Aroma is Ranger IPA honey and biscuit body with fresh citrusy hops. Taste is a bit unbalanced-- just a tad too bitter. Basically tastes like a hopped-up version of Ranger, and I’m sure that’s exactly what it is. Body is light, thin, average carbonation, dry citrusy finish. Overall, kind of a disappointment. Why oh why would you filter a fresh hop ale, New Belgium?

Pours pretty clean sharp yellow with one finger creamy white head. Nose is super hoppy and fresh, lightly sweet . Lots of citrus. Then there is this flavor I run into with some fresh hopped beers, its almost like a chemical of some kind. Not a fan, sorry.

bottle... a bit of boring and unremarkable ipa, the best one they have done, forgettable and a touch hot but ok

Bomber from McScrooge’s. pours a light hazy orange. Perhaps a bit lighter than I’d expect from an IPA. The aroma is satisfying. It’s not exactly a hop bomb, but there is plenty of strong, fresh, dank bitterness going on. I seem to get more of the herbal grassiness I’d associate with Amarillo than the rest. The flavor is pretty balanced with an even bite of citrus and herbs. The palate is not as dense as I expected. It becomes more apparent this is fresh hopped in the finish. It’s quite raw, for lack of a better word, in a good way.

651mL thanks to Butters. Pours a clear amber orange with white bubbles forming. No head formation. Nose is onion, stinging lemon, citrus hops, lavender. Taste is bitter, piney, hop forward, very bitter. Slightly unbalanced. Pretty standard IPA- certainly hop forward and thankfully no cheese or stickiness. Little specialty malt character. Perhaps too much onion character.

Sampled at the DC gathering at GT’s place. Clear golden pour with ring of whitish head. Nose is fantastic bright fresh green pine and pineapple hops. Flavor is citrus and a distinct bitter biting hop note that is actually a little much for my personal taste. Smells better than it tastes.
