3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at Eureka Burger. Nice IPA. Lots of sticky citrus hop flavor and aroma with a toasty and lightly sweet malt base. Medium bodied and mouth-filling bitterness gives this a little heft but itís still nicely drinkable. Not very different from Ranger and doesnít have the big grassy character of a lot of wet hop beers, which I like in this case.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thin head that dissipates quickly. A bit too bitter for my taste, it interferes with the aromatics. Hint of pine resin.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught. Pours a mostly clear copper color with a moderate white head on it. Nose is maltier than I expected with a lot of pepper on the nose. Taste is slightly bitter, but also has that rather peppery taste. OK, but not a huge fan of it.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Good but not as good as Ranger. This appears to be part of the new fresh hop IPA movement. The aroma was of citrus hop, particularly of grapefruit. Golden amber color with a white fizzy head. Nice fresh taste with a hoppy beginning, clean malt taste and crisp finish. No unique spices just a good representation of the style. Great at the brewery.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from BevMo: Poured a golden liquid that was violent with carbonation bubbles rising to the top while thick shaving cream foam was the head. The aroma was decked with fruity hops that also boasted a scent of pine along with a faint background of flower, pollen, or some type of green plant. Flavor is bitter with a mild taste of hops control the drink, though, the malts here do strike a balance and almost make this IPA taste like a Dogfish Head 60/90 minute IPA.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a light clear golden with an eggshell foamy head. The beer has excellent head retention and Guiness-like lace rings as it is consumed. The bouquet is dominated by fresh cascade hop flowers. The lovely resiny hop aroma is reminiscent of every home brewerís favorite part of the brewing process--opening those packets of hop pellets or flowers. The mouthfeel is fantastic. That perfect combination of cotton on the front of the tongue and light carbonation burn on the back. Alternative pine, ripe fruit, and tart citrus. It finishes with a perfumy hoppiness that is less intrusive on the palate than many in this style. In fact, this beer looks and drinks like an APA. Its flavor is just a little thin for my liking.

December 28th, 2011 - New Belgiumís Fresh Hops is marked as the product of absolute industrial efficiency. In a turnaround that would impress even the snootiest farm-to-table Brooklyn hipster, New Belgium boasts a field-to-bottle period of less than 24 hours, maximizing the likelihood of making the LoF Fresh Hop the rawest, most resinous IPA in my beer stash. Although "fresher", the aroma already hints at this beers family relationship with Ranger, featuring a sweeter and sharply pine hop smell, like a hike through young pine growth. The flavor is relatively mild, (though the lacing creates a fiercely stubborn mustache), featuring fruity sugars in the beginning, including hops and floral elements. The Fresh Hop is both refreshing and bright, and cleanses the palate with a robust carbonation. This delivers a clean, summer, mountain flavor with a healthy botanical touch, and a sweetness and hops balance that I enjoy more than Ranger IPA. Too bad it isnít as affordable as Ranger.
