UPDATED: DEC 14, 2008 On tap. Wow, this a super Dubbel. Pours with a clearish, reddish brown body with a small off-white head with some very good lacing. Aroma of candi, dark fruits, berries, banana, clove, leather, tobacco, and honey. Taste is berries, dark fruits, alcohol, and light caramelized banana. Medium to full bodied, slightly warming and a cream mouthfeel with light carbonation. A very enjoyable beer, that I would love to have easily available.

Deep chestnut, slim head. Fruity nose, candy sugar apparent. Bitter, from dark roasted malts, dry, taste of brown candi sugar. Some banana, but restrained. Well-bodied, alcohol very obvious. Interesting - a whole other interpretation with the words 'Grand Cru'. Any name is better than Quadrupel. Infinitely better than their double.

Pours a medium brown with a small cream colored head. The aroma is malty with a good coriander profile. This has a thick syrupy body that finishes light and citrusy. The flavor is reserved, but the alcohol is quite apparent. Other than the alcoholic burn, this is a very authenic tasting Grand Cru.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 3fourths (6962) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 29, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2013 Deep ruby hue. Smooth, with lots of small bubbles and smooth lacing. Sweet alcohol nose full of mild cherries, run, chocolate and big time banana. Smooth up until the alcoholic and harsh finish, but as it warms this alcohol is covered by a smooth banana flavor. Mild, and I appreciate the subtle flavor mixtures while still liking the strong alcohol. In my experience this is the beer that improved the most as it warmed to proper temperature.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 11, 2003
Tormenting brown rum burn and swirling dry yeast flakes...The chocolate-bearing berries are scared by the alcohol and stay in the distance...I usually expect more from this style of Belgian Strong...Thanks radiomgb!...
