Experimentation doesn’t mean new. With our Gruit, the latest Lips of Faith release, it’s all about revisiting the ancient craft of bittering with herb mixtures, not hops. In here horehound, bog myrtle, yarrow, wormwood and elderflowers get together with rich malts to create a bitter, dry, velvet-like sweetness worth revering.

Tap at Fiddlers.

Light pour, ample head. Rather Belgian aroma, estery and some spice. I don’t miss the hops that much. Gently sweet flavors, flowery. A bit sticky and thick. Not bad.

Bomber: Clear, bright yellow, with a slight green hue and ample white foam, dissipating after couple minutes with a sparse ring of lace. Bright aroma, slightly medicinal with elderflower, and an almost ever so slight woody character. The flavor is similar with a nice dose of caramel and just a slight fruit twang, touch of aspirin. The carbonation is crisp, mouthfeel has just a touch of syrup but thins as it warms. The finish is sweet and herbal. It’s unlike anything I’ve tasted, fairly crisp and sweet, nice for summer but slightly heavier than a session brew.

Pours light gold with white head. Great lacing throughout. Aromas of sweet barley, herbal and floral notes, cantaloupe. Sweet malt backbone with flowery bitter balance. Finish is sweet with some alcohol and floral notes.

Bottle at home. Poured bright yellow with a thin white head that disappeared quickly. Aroma of apples and spice. The taste is of herbs, spices and grains. Would have liked more malt.

Clear golden color with lingering white froth. Peppery, salty, dry herb and vegetable aromas with dry crackers. Medium body with average co2. Nice dusty pils malt, light berry and pit fruit flavors with some unknown herbs and spices____nicely drying bitter finish---good.

This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a semi-light golden yellow to hazy amber color with a fairly decent transparency about it. The one finger white foamy head quickly dies and doesn’t leave any lacing. The smell had a fair amount of peanut butter (I’m not exactly sure where that came from but I do know I get that a lot in NB beers). Anyways, there is a fairly herbal to earthy nuttiness rolling underneath some light malts. The taste was mainly sweet and earthy with the normal tea-like quality for a gruit to show its face just slightly in the flavoring. There’s a sweet sticky tea-like aftertaste and a sweet sticky finish. Overall, I say this was fairly good for the style though I haven’t had too many gruits in my day. The carbonation is exceptionally smooth as it should be. Overall, I say this was a decent gruit, though not one that will go overtop, its solid for the most part.

Interesting beer. It had some nice malt and a slight graininess to it, smooth body and a decent bitterness on the end. Reminded me of a sort of wheat beer.

I really enjoyed this beer, it was wonderful the bitterness was just right and there were a lot of herbal flavors that were great, in addition the malty backbone was great

Piss yellow with a slight haze. A vegetative wet concrete basement funk. A herb bite with a celery asparagus green bean, vegetable kale bitter. The herbs start and finish the sip but the vege taste owns the middle. Leaves a lasting wormwood bitter in the aftertaste.
