Experimentation doesn’t mean new. With our Gruit, the latest Lips of Faith release, it’s all about revisiting the ancient craft of bittering with herb mixtures, not hops. In here horehound, bog myrtle, yarrow, wormwood and elderflowers get together with rich malts to create a bitter, dry, velvet-like sweetness worth revering.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark straw color with an ample 1"+ head. Aroma of peppery spices and a little sweetness. Light bodied, all the aromas meld together in the taste with a slight dry finish. No hops to be found here. Refreshing, very interesting. Glad I got to try this one.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent lighter gold with foamy white head. Smells somewhat herbal and floral with what seems like a bit of fruit. Tastes like it smells with an average (at best mouthfeel). Not offensive, but not my thing.

Pours clear orange-yellow with a diminishing thin white head, fine lacing. Aromas of grass, barnyard, flowers, weeds, fruit, and biscuit. Light body, smooth, low carbonation. Mild sweetness, mild funky tartness, with a gentle herbaceous and peppery bitter finish. Reminiscent of a light saison, but more herbal.

On draft from the New Belgium cafe in DIA. Pours a translucent yellow with a thin white head. Minimal lacing. Aromatic explosion, peppery and botanical. Crisp taste, separated but in identifiable herbal flavors, for my palate at least. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lots of sharp and clear spices involved. Not as old or muddy tasting as I expected. Very light in body, too.

Okay stuff. Dark yellow. Smelled herbal, medicinal, and yeasty. Tasted like a very spicy herbal kolsch.

Bottle. Yellow/light brown pour with white head. Smells flowery with fruity notes. Tastes of the same. Very interesting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bomber, pours hazy gold with a persistent thick head. Nose of yeast and herbs, taste of the same with a salty, late developing, lightly bitter finish. Interesting.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2014 Tap at Fiddlers.

Light pour, ample head. Rather Belgian aroma, estery. Sweet honey, some cereal. Spicy bitterness coming on very late. Flowery. Initially sticky, seems to thin out on the tongue. Not bad.

Bomber: Clear, bright yellow, with a slight green hue and ample white foam, dissipating after couple minutes with a sparse ring of lace. Bright aroma, slightly medicinal with elderflower, and an almost ever so slight woody character. The flavor is similar with a nice dose of caramel and just a slight fruit twang, touch of aspirin. The carbonation is crisp, mouthfeel has just a touch of syrup but thins as it warms. The finish is sweet and herbal. It’s unlike anything I’ve tasted, fairly crisp and sweet, nice for summer but slightly heavier than a session brew.
