Oh my God. It’s not only a reaction for drinking one of Dieu De Ciel’s beers, but a figurative translation of the Montreal brewery’s name. Just ask our brewmaster, he’s in heaven when drinking this collaborative tripel, inspired by Dieu De Ciel’s love of hibiscus and Belgians love of the obscure, hence our addition of tart feijoa fruit. Cheers!

Draft. Clear golden copper color, small but thick white head, solid lacing. Aroma of dusty apricots and praches bathed in brandy. Taste is sweet, syrupy, boozy, fruity caramel. Closer to a barleywine than a tripel.

Clear orange pour with a tall white head. Nose is surprisingly tart, from what I can only assume is the feijoa. Very strong floral component, a bit of grape, sweet sugar and malt, and hints of banana. The flavor is rather tart as well. Lemon zest, what I’m guessing is some feijoa, sugar, light alcohol, biscuit, and grape. A nice perfumey quality to this beer, too.

Hazy strawberry blond, the aroma carries the florals of NB. Tripel but also this crazy fruitiness that must be feijoa. Sour fruity character, but mixed with the malts, florals and hop of NB tripel.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2013 On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, pours a hazy golden bronze with a small beige head. Aroma of light fruits, paint thinner and apples. Flavour of apples, paint thinner and alcohol. Very simplistic beer, full of apple and alcoholic liqueur notes. Decent, but too amateurish tasting, and quite boozy. Drinkable, but just barely. 22 oz. bottle, pours a dirty orange with a small white head. Aroma of hibiscus, tropical fruits, and some citrus hops. Flavour brings out guava, a little pineapple, some peach, some citrus hops, and some grapefruit. Interesting flavour profile, with loads of tropical fruits. Finishes on citrusy notes, particularly guava and grapefruit. Great stuff. The bottle version is much better than the draught version I had. My rating will reflect a balance of my two tries.

Bomber from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours clear orange/copper. Slight, transient white head. Aroma is rather fruity - hibiscus seems discernible. Med body. Flavor is tart fruit, with some Belgian yeast/spice aspects. Getting some banana ester as all the main stuff flows away. Really quite odd. It has a pineapple acidity. And some berry. Hibiscus seems to have gotten lost. Finishes drier than the aroma suggested, and still acidic/tart.

Bottle. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate complex tropical citrus and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy citrus sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a good beer.

Bomber poured a clear golden amber with a lingering ring of ivory foam. Aromas of bread, fruittiness, hibiscus and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bread, sour citrus, hibiscus and light earthiness with a smooth lingering citrus finish. Actually quite a mess!

A hazed amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, fruity caramel malt with light fruit acidity, chalky notes, lightly musty. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with fruity acidity, raspy peels, feijoa skins, not bad.
