Serving up cold and jet black, this imperial stout should be taken seriously for about one minute as the dark foam builds. Then, enjoy its velvety chocolate-covered smoothness and delicious aroma of sustainably-grown, locally-roasted coffee.

Really liked this one. Pitch black, with a dark tan head. Aroma was dominated by rich coffee and some roasty malt. Flavor matched the aroma with the addition of chocolate. Mouthfeel was nice and silky.

In the glass it has a dark brown appearance with a small beige head. It has an aroma of coffee that dominates with some mild cocoa notes. Taste has some bitterness up front with an alcohol punch. Coffee, chocolate and a molasses finish it out. Nice finish.

Bottle. Black pour with a tall, frothy brown head. Strong coffee in the aroma along with dark chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is big coffee up front, chocolate covered coffee beans, roasted malt, candy bars and burnt caramel. Body is medium-full with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more coffee notes, dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, and dark, oily coffee beans.

22oz bottle poured into a Snifter at 39°. Color is black with good carbonation and a tight brown head. Aroma of fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate and dried fruit. It has a bolder medium body with a lighter mouth feel that comes off crisp and almost sharp. Flavor is roasted with a light note of coffee, baking coco and raisin. Alcohol jumps out in the after taste which seems to start sweet, this is quickly snubbed out by a roasted bitterness that leaves a slightly dry feel. Overall its a great Stout, a little lighter than I was excepting for an imperial and not as good as the aroma leads you to believe it will be.

Bottle served in snifter: pours mar opaque with an initial frothy tan head which faded, pretty good lacework. The aroma has notes of espresso and powered cocoa, bready, charred and roasty. Some leathery and tar esters along with some grassy, catty and herbal hops vapours. The taste is pretty much what you expect, not overly sweet thanks to the bitterness of the coffee and hops. Still, I would have like to see some more dark fruit or caramel sweetness to counter the coffee character. Seems a tad thin on the palate for an Imperial of 9% ABV but that is often the case with coffee stouts... a bit ashy and metallic as well. Overall I like this beer but somehow still left wanting a tad more.

Chocolate espresso aroma, funky at first. Dark pour, low head. Smooth finish almost reminds me of chocolate milk with Khalua ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown to almost black pour with a frothy khaki head. Mocha and roasted coffee aromas. Very nice and smooth coffee and chocolate flavor. Hard to believe this weighs in at 9% as nothing from the warmth or taste prepares you for it. Well done.
