Serving up cold and jet black, this imperial stout should be taken seriously for about one minute as the dark foam builds. Then, enjoy its velvety chocolate-covered smoothness and delicious aroma of sustainably-grown, locally-roasted coffee.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2013 Poured into a snifter from a 22 ounce bottle. Just the right amount of coffee and chocolate for me. Very tasty. It left me craving for another.

The name, of course, was enough to draw me in. Iím not much of a coffee drinker but have loved most of the coffee-laden brews that Iíve acquired. This one, however, was a bit heavy on the coffee (I know itís imperial and realize that coffee was listed before chocolate in itís descriptor) for me. The cocoa takes a back seat and qualities such as vanilla, honey, and caramel would benefit the beer. Just a little harsh and one dimensional. Probably wonít revisit but not offensive by any means.

This is good but definitely heavy on the coffee. The roastiness also provides a bit of grit to the beer. Better than coffee but not my style.

On tap at Aces and Ales. Pours black with a persistent khaki head. Strong coffee aroma. Full body with more coffee and chocolate. Finish is sweet and dry from the alcohol. Very good.

Nearly a black pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of toddy, chocolate, chalk and roast. Flavor is bold with lots of black coffee, roast and chocolate.

On draft at Flannyís in Tempe, AZ. Aroma of black coffee and some cocoa notes. Taste adds a little more chocolate flavor, and damn tasty. Delicious!
