Serving up cold and jet black, this imperial stout should be taken seriously for about one minute as the dark foam builds. Then, enjoy its velvety chocolate-covered smoothness and delicious aroma of sustainably-grown, locally-roasted coffee.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s in Fort Collins. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Intense fresh coffee, a touch acidic, dark chocolate, light vanilla, cocoa, caramel aroma. Coffee bean, a touch fruity, light booze, toffee, apple, roasty, a touch smoky malty flavor with a bitter, coffee bean finish. A bit strong but not bad.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick black pour with thin but lasting tan head, aroma brought notes of nice fresh espresso, coffee grounds, beans, nice hints of cocoa, roast and slight caramel, toffee, in there as well, smells like a mocha. Taste is a mix of coffee bean, espresso, nice cocoa, dark chocolate, hints of roast, slight caramel, finishing with more mocha, nice dry and bitter finish. Fairly creamy on the palate, but not overly so where it becomes too thick. Yes, it is one-dimensional, coffee forward, but it is right up my alley. More please!

Deep, dark black, with a frothy tan head, great retenention and lace. Wonderful coffee/espresso aromas with the chocolate only a mild afterthought. Flavor is similar, only more pronounced, and the chocolate makes a much more significant appearance. Roasty malts, hints of oatmeal, and a mild ripe dark fruitiness round it out. Full body, silky smooth mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, warming alcohol, and a lingering dark chocolate that seems slightly decadent. I’m a bit surprised at the rating here, as this was really a treat.

22 oz. bottle to snifter. Pours brown black with a quick soapy khaki head that leave a wispy film and sudsy collar. Aroma is strong coffee and bakers chocolate. Taste is strong coffee and mild chocolate with some faint vanilla and bitter hops. Palate is full and chalky. This is decent, but the coffee is a bit strong and over does the chocolate flavor.

On tap poured a deep brown w/ a tan ring and good lacing. Huge aroma of pure fresh coffee, not to dark of a roast, like sticking your nose in a bag of fresh grounds, the aroma is that big. Taste is fresh coffee with a subtle dark chocolate backbone. Light sweet to light bitter with a dry finish.

Bottle poured into goblet.Deep black/brown with a slight brown head. Moderate lacing. Big fresh roasted espresso aroma. Taste is BIG fresh coffee with a chocolate back. Not sure i’ve ever had a beer with a more quality, fresh coffee taste. Perfect for a cold night as this is a very drinkable, warming beer.

Strong espresso/roasted coffee beans and toasted barley are dominate on the aroma. Deep shade of brownish black with no foam. Massive flavors of roasted coffee, melted molasses, oats, barley, toasted nuts and faint vanilla. Medium bodied with a full flavor and masked alcohol. Overall, this is a very well done and unique stout with an interesting flavor. I’d give this an A rating.

The pour is nearly black with a more than moderate, fizzy, fluffy, pillowy, and tan head which settles to a thin, pillowy layer and leaves scattered lace. The nose is pleasant but quite simple; very chocolatey, rich dark chocolates, chocolate shake, a light Colombian coffee, some moderate roast, and light dark toast. The flavor is similar with rich dark chocolates, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, semisweet chocolate chips, some earthy roast, similar coffee notes, and a hint of vanilla. The palate is nearly full, silky, creamy, soft to lively, and very coating. The finish is bittersweet with coffee and rich chocolate mostly, and a vanilla bean lingering. While I found the beer very well balanced, something about the beer just made it hard to drink too much. Maybe a bit too much or too rich chocolate without enough hop bitterness? Nice beer but it didn’t make me want to keep drinking.
