Serving up cold and jet black, this imperial stout should be taken seriously for about one minute as the dark foam builds. Then, enjoy its velvety chocolate-covered smoothness and delicious aroma of sustainably-grown, locally-roasted coffee.

Pours pitch black with a white head. Smells like coffee & hints of chocolate. Malt & chocolate & coffee balance well - not too roasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black with tan head. Really pleasant and strong free coffee grind aroma. Sweet and malty like a Hershey’s Kiss and a strong but subtle roasted Turkish coffee and marshmellow flavor.

Pours a deep dark opaque brown with a light tan head. Aroma is rich coffee with cream. Taste is a nice blend of dark roasted malt with some sweetness, coffee, dark chocolate and raisins. What bitterness there is seems derived from the burnt malt rather than any hops of note. alcohol well hidden, except for the characteristic warmth after the swallow.

Bottle:   Nearly black, thin to moderate light beige head, decent lacing.   Black coffee and somewhat of a german chocolate cake like aroma.   Similar tongue, milk and sugar, not so much cake like.   Backside has minor black coffee bitterness.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Balanced sweetened black coffee finish.   Not bad, not great, decent example.   Wished it had a bit more body, and perhaps not as sweet.   Pale roastiness from start to finsih.

16oz growler. Served at around 55F.

Pours black with a two finger light brown head that leaves nice sheets of spotty lacing and recedes to a wispy cap and ring.

Aroma is coffee, cocoa powder, roasted malts, nutty, peanut butter. Good to very good strength.

Flavor mirrors the aroma, coffee, cocoa/chocolate, roasted malts, peanut butter, hint of dark fruit, rather sweet, minimal bitterness, mild alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium-plus bodied, creamy and smooth with soft carbonation.

More about the coffee than chocolate, and picking up a distinct peanut butter character. Kinda makes me think of Terrapin’s Liquid Bliss, yet this doesn’t utilize any peanuts. Pretty good, but not as thick or rich as other Imperial Stouts out there.

Pours almost black, with a thin tan head. Smells of coffee and chocolate. The taste leans more toward the coffee while having that hint of sweetness to it. The alcohol is masked quite well. A solid imperial coffee stout.

On tap and viscously dispensed to a snifter with an opague, black/brown color, brownish tan head froth, and decent, fairly lasting cling to the curtainy lacing. The aroma was dry, roastiness, ground coffee, and smooth malt, with a touch of burnt wood/smokiness. The flavor was similar notes, retaining the dryness, with medium, earthy hop bitterness, and some tanniny astringency. Medium+body, with very soft carbonation, no real esters or sweetness to speak of, but a soft baker’s chocolate emerging as it warmed. If you like crisp and dry, this is the RIS for you.
