Le Terroir is a French term meaning ĎOf the Earth.í Used to reference the environmental conditional that affect the brew, we like to think about the terroir of our foeders. These wooden barrels age our sour beer in varying temperatures, humidity and vibrations. The terroir of New Belgium, so to speak. Add in another variable by dry-hopping with peachy, mango-like Amarillo hops, and we created a beer that changes every time we brew it.

Bronze in color and shiny with gigantic head of lace inducing tight microscopic bubbles. Nose of sour apricot and pinapple. Sour and clean flavors ride soft carbination. Apricot and pineapple core dominate. Sugary gum flavors guard the exit. nice.

Well thereís nothin I donít like no better than a fine sour ale... and itís great that the new world folks are finall taking to the style. I can recall my first encounters with sour ales, on the hills of the Parisian steppes some years ago, watching fireworks with a backpack of fine Belgians as well as a decent glass to go with them. Nice to know the lager fiends of the world are finally coming around to the finer edge of the beer world, eh? So anyways it pours reasonably well like a fruit lager with modest carbonation and very little head, not exciting really. The aroma is fruitiness like an IPA but no complexity, nothing like what a good olí sour ale should smell like, but if you sniff deeply youíll start to notice lambic notes and other mementos of those times you got waste on this style in Brussels like I did. The flavour is slightly sour but not prominent enough - there are hints of it here, and I wonder if the temperature was too low at 4.8 celcius, perhaps this is more of a room temperature brew - but it has some decent sour notes, though nothing too exciting nor complex to bring it out onto the world stage. Nonetheless good points for a decent sour ale on this continent, damn I do miss them, wish more people would appreciate the nuances of the darker sour ales that make life in Europe as palatable as it is, terrorists and all.

Pours pale, not huge carbonation, looks like apple juice drink. aroma is fresh and fruity, not overly strong. Bit of sour apple, home-pressed. Taste is nice hops are subdued but really helping the overall balance. Somewhat green feeling to it, nice and refreshing. Sour is working more in the aftertaste, nicely lingering.

12oz pour at Toronado. This place always has great food and beer. Pours a hazy gold with no head. Aroma of sour peach and citrua hops. Strong peach and citrus forward with sweetness. The sourness And carbonation of the beer really linger on the palate (in a great way). Very balanced. Iím impressed--this is a great beer.

Draft at Pinthouse Pizza. Hazy golden color with white head. Fruity, citrusy aroma with some funk. Taste: more fruitiness with pineapple, white wine, citrus, sour cherry. A tart, funky, earthy finish. Light and refreshing. Would never have guessed the 7.5% ABV.

On tap at Hopcat. I've never had a sour. Bit of green apple there at the end. I need to try more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nicely balanced sour. The dry hops lend a nice aroma without adding bitterness. Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation. I'm not sure if it's fermented with yeast naturally in the air, but it seems like it's not' ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ ÷÷WF2015: Well this was a pucker. Aroma is funky with lemon notes, grapefruit, barnyard and more funk. Taste is sour with fruits and crackers, citrus and yuzu popped up in my mind. Young earth, wood, funk and a really zesty finish with a lot of flavors swirling around. I loved it!
