Le Terroir is a French term meaning ‘Of the Earth.’ Used to reference the environmental conditional that affect the brew, we like to think about the terroir of our foeders. These wooden barrels age our sour beer in varying temperatures, humidity and vibrations. The terroir of New Belgium, so to speak. Add in another variable by dry-hopping with peachy, mango-like Amarillo hops, and we created a beer that changes every time we brew it.

Sour ale, tasted on tap at OBriens in San Diego. Backlogged rating, I believe from their barrel-aged beer night. One of my favorites of New Belgium to date. Appearance is hazy gold, with a light white ring of head. Aroma is of grains, pear, and a light barnyard funk. The flavor shows more of the sour character, along with lemon zest, funky cheese and biscuit, layered with complexity. Finishes dry with a nice dose of hops. Excellent!

Poured from oversized bottle into a stem glass. Pours hazy Amber with an off-white head. Aroma is lemon peel, pine resin, apricot, jasmine, and herbs. Flavour is sour apple, lemon zest, and notes of canned peaches and apricot. There are also notes of grass and green tea. Amazing complexity.

Bottle thanks to Pursprak. Pours a nice hazy amber with a white head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy with lots of tangerine, mandarin, peach, grassy hops, lots of herbal notes and funky barnyard. The taste is fresh and hoppy with notes of sweet citrus fruits, grapes, funk and weak vinous notes leading to a dry end. really nice!

Draft at Frisco Taphouse in Columbia, MD served in a goblet glass. Slightly cloudy orangy-golden color with off-white head. Aroma notes of bright citrus hops, sour orange/grapefruit, lightly floral and yeast funk. Taste adds some straw, lightly herbal/spice notes, berries, white wine and faint vanilla. Medium body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy, slick with lingering fruity tartness. I believe my first dry hopped sour, I’d like to try more!

Awesome! The dry hopping really sends the aroma to a new level with tons of citrus peel. The appearance is more golden amber like an ipa for example. The taste is lots of that citrusy hop notes followed by a mouth clenching sour. The finish is dry, sour, and quick...light bodied and really good. Earlier versions of this were not my favorite, but this year’s (2015) is excellent!

With Zach, pours a yellowish orange pour with a nice off white head. Nose is hoppy , with Brett and some citrus and apricot, Taste is tart and pungent, but not over the top and very drinkable for sour lovers. Finishes on the tasty sour notes. Quaff Score 7 / 10

Bomber. Pours a copper orange with a white head and tarty aroma with hop notes. Taste is sour and tart up front, along with hop and citrus notes which lead into the long, sour, tart, fruity finish.

A vintage 2014 Lips of Faith on tap. Light hazy yellow body. Smells a lot like a freshly cut orange. Big sour grapefruit taste. Hints of oak and orange. Another great sour beer by New Belgium.

Pours orange in color with a thin white head. Aroma has alot more hops in it than I expected, tropical hop notes with a lot of mango, hints of sour funk and acidity underneath it all. Taste stays pretty balanced between sour and bitter, mango, lemons, funk. Pretty good, not sure if its worth what I paid though.
