COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Le Terroir is a French term meaning ‘Of the Earth.’ Used to reference the environmental conditional that affect the brew, we like to think about the terroir of our foeders. These wooden barrels age our sour beer in varying temperatures, humidity and vibrations. The terroir of New Belgium, so to speak. Add in another variable by dry-hopping with peachy, mango-like Amarillo hops, and we created a beer that changes every time we brew it.

22oz bomber from Green’s. Cloudy orange pour, nice 1/2 inch enduring head. Delightful nose, all flowers, hops, spice and peaches. Nice lacing as she goes. Pretty damn good. Like a jv de dolle special reserva. We’ll let’s not go crazy. But I’d buy it again.

August 29th, 2011 - When you plod along the tour of New Belgium you get a generous peek behind the copper curtain of brewing - glimpses of the bottling line through wide windows, furtive looks into vats and tuns, and envied glances at the employees sampling beer as they shuttle around the brewery. Most impressive to me was the stop in a dark corner of the building where the oak age barrels sit silent as sentinels, guarding the souring juice inside their bellies. This, I hope, is where New Belgium’s La Terroir travels through. The pinching aroma of tangerines and the strange smell of Elmer’s glue and pineapple juice surely borrow some of the character of the aging barrels, and the sweet and sour qualities in the flavor strengthen my suspicious. While the Le Terroir flirts with acidity and sourness, my mouth never feels threatened enough to pucker. Indeed, the aftertaste is sweet and indulgent with pineapple juice and more notes of ripe, even sweetened, tangerine juice. From sour to sweet, featuring a string of different flavors, this is a refreshing beer that is mildly sour, and very friendly to the beer drinker looking to explore the often treacherous style of sour beers.

Pours orange-ish gold with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, white grape, mandarin, maybe a bit of peach, and tartness. Taste is a very crisp, fresh tartness, more of the same fruits plus some grapefruit. Like a tropical warhead candy right before you get past the sour coating to the sweet part. Refreshing juicy palate with a nice relatively light body. Delicious sour that has a great balance between the tartness and fruity hops.

2013. Pour cloudy with little head, golden colour. Smells sour and sweet, like a mid summer pitted fruit, with hints of fuzzy peach candy. Puckering sour mouth feel backed up with a enough bitter flavour to be refreshing and sweetness to be enjoyable. Very refreshing, a good summer beer.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Porus hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of sour/funkiness, floral and citrusy hops, and some caramel and pale malts. Flavor the same with a really cool blend of everything. Average texture. A good beer.

Poured from a keg. Beautiful orangish yellow color with minimal white head. Full bodied. Fruits and flowers galore. This might as well be a sweet perfume. Sour. Not sweet and sour, just sour. Reminds me of candy with peach mango orange and hops. Very light film left over, I feel like the sourness puts my saliva glands on overdrive which clean up the palette pretty fast. Overall a little too sour for my taste.

Poured from the tap. Hazy orangey yellow with minimal white head. Aroma of peach and hops. Light, citrusy. Same flavour with some mango as well. Very tasty.

Translucent orange, medium head. Hoppy grapefruit citrus aroma. Slightly grassy. Wow. Delicious. Immediate tartness that goes down surprisingly smoothly with a light texture. The sour is the most prominent aspect, but notes of grapefruit and lemon are present as well. Lingering bitterness and a bit of hops to finish.

Cloudy amber with a lasting head of small bubbles. Smells of a wet fall, gourds, hops and sour apple. Smooth great medium body with a sour fizz that climbs up your nose. The sour lasts.

Bottle from Dak, thanks buddy! Crisp yellow/orange pour, aroma is semi sour, with a nice wallop of hops. Taste, not mind blowing on the sour level but very nice and crisp, mild hops, tropical fruit, very well rounded and very sessionable stuff for a sour, hope they are bringing this is in soon so I can drink more of it!
