Le Terroir is a French term meaning ‘Of the Earth.’ Used to reference the environmental conditional that affect the brew, we like to think about the terroir of our foeders. These wooden barrels age our sour beer in varying temperatures, humidity and vibrations. The terroir of New Belgium, so to speak. Add in another variable by dry-hopping with peachy, mango-like Amarillo hops, and we created a beer that changes every time we brew it.

22oz. bottle served in a DFH signature glass. Shared in line at the FFF XV Anniversary Party. A:Pours a clear, deep straw with some orange undertones. A one finger frothy white head forms on the pour and leaves some splotchy, spotty lace on the way down. S: Some light citrus hops are present and slightly tart orange and apple peals. Nothing outstanding. T: Taste is much better. Great tartness and some sour fruit skins are balanced with a nice sweet citrus hop undertone. There is a little woody oak with a slighty vinegar-like pucker on the backend. M: Light bodied with a slightly drying mouth and tiny pucker on the finish. O: The dry hopping really added a nice citrus hop undertone to this and I’m glad I was able to still get a little pucker out of it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-14-2011

Pours orange-ish gold with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, white grape, mandarin, maybe a bit of peach, and tartness. Taste is a very crisp, fresh tartness, more of the same fruits plus some grapefruit. Like a tropical warhead candy right before you get past the sour coating to the sweet part. Refreshing juicy palate with a nice relatively light body. Delicious sour that has a great balance between the tartness and fruity hops.

2013. Pour cloudy with little head, golden colour. Smells sour and sweet, like a mid summer pitted fruit, with hints of fuzzy peach candy. Puckering sour mouth feel backed up with a enough bitter flavour to be refreshing and sweetness to be enjoyable. Very refreshing, a good summer beer.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Porus hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of sour/funkiness, floral and citrusy hops, and some caramel and pale malts. Flavor the same with a really cool blend of everything. Average texture. A good beer.

Poured from a keg. Beautiful orangish yellow color with minimal white head. Full bodied. Fruits and flowers galore. This might as well be a sweet perfume. Sour. Not sweet and sour, just sour. Reminds me of candy with peach mango orange and hops. Very light film left over, I feel like the sourness puts my saliva glands on overdrive which clean up the palette pretty fast. Overall a little too sour for my taste.

Poured from the tap. Hazy orangey yellow with minimal white head. Aroma of peach and hops. Light, citrusy. Same flavour with some mango as well. Very tasty.

Translucent orange, medium head. Hoppy grapefruit citrus aroma. Slightly grassy. Wow. Delicious. Immediate tartness that goes down surprisingly smoothly with a light texture. The sour is the most prominent aspect, but notes of grapefruit and lemon are present as well. Lingering bitterness and a bit of hops to finish.

Cloudy amber with a lasting head of small bubbles. Smells of a wet fall, gourds, hops and sour apple. Smooth great medium body with a sour fizz that climbs up your nose. The sour lasts.

Bottle from Dak, thanks buddy! Crisp yellow/orange pour, aroma is semi sour, with a nice wallop of hops. Taste, not mind blowing on the sour level but very nice and crisp, mild hops, tropical fruit, very well rounded and very sessionable stuff for a sour, hope they are bringing this is in soon so I can drink more of it!

Bomber pour with a friend - have enjoyed this in the past, but never rated it (and think past times have been in tap form). Anyway - pours orangey - gold with a robust white head that holds its own (particularly so for a sour/wild varietal). Aroma is bold - fruity (especially tropical - definitely mango!), sour/tart, slight yeastiness - inviting! Flavor is excellent...lots of tropical fruit with a puckering sour note throughout - not overpowering, but omnipotent, and deliciously so. Pick up some lemon notes at the finish, and the amarillo hops are definitely noted somewhere with both aroma and flavor. There is a malt backbone in this beer, which is why I think I enjoyed this so much - a balanced sour is not a common find. Palate is medium bodied and oily - an easy drinker as the sour notes leave the residual dryness. I couldn’t drink a ton of this in one sitting, but I could drink it very frequently - excellent offering!
