Cross pollinate your tastebuds with Belgian imagination and you’ll be sipping this ale while visions of pluots dance in your head. Pluots? A hybrid of apricots and plums that impart a subtle sweetness. Ferment that with a wild Belgian yeast strain and you have a fruity yet spicy nature with a body reminiscent of red wine. Delicious.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2013 crystal clean pour. no head lingering head, but well carbonated. smells of interesting fruit flavors and sativa plants.plum comes through on the nose as well. taste is round and not anything amazing. Lingering finish on the palate is malty and tastes like plum. not a lot really going on here, but at 6.50 a bomber its worth sipping.

On tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Aroma of rotten peachy fruits, sweet fruits, plum, alcohol. Flavour is cloying sweetness, boozy. Though the aroma has some redeeming features, this beer is just a mess. Totally out of balance and far too sweet and alcoholic. Unpleasant.

(Rating #6299)

July 19th, 2013 - New Belgium’s adding pluots to the ingredient list, roping in obscure fruits that I myself have only seen at markets a few times. But the flavor must be interesting enough for it to catch brewers’ attention. Pouring this version of the Lips of Faith yields a slightly hazy, slightly golden brew with almost no head to decorate the top, and to protect it from the harsh light of day. The smell is, at its core, a wheat bear, but decorated with the scents of ru, raisin and banana fosters. The vanilla component is noticeable too, paired as it is with banana based dessert flavors like banana pudding. The flavor is quite strong, dropping those gentler banana notes with a sickly sweet booziness, and a sugar note that tastes more like concentrated pear juice mixed with concentrated white grape juice. Each sip is a spoonful of sugar that does not go down well, leaving me enjoying the scent much more than the flavor.
