Sampled on 4/23/2012. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a somewhat cloudy, medium orange amber color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet and, yeasty with strong hints of pears. A medium to full bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy and herbal. Decent carbonation. Lots of sweet malts and some earthy hops, add to that some interesting pear flavor and add some more sweetness. It is MOST definitely a ramped up Fat Tire. Interesting taste, I think I might be sipping on this one all night, which is not a bad thing… Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet, yet there is some pear flavor to cut the sweetness at the finish.

July 31st, 2011 - New Belgium calls the Super Cru a bunch of New Belgian beers rolled into one. The mental simulation isn’t tasty, but a beer that embodies the whole range of New Belgian brewing has more appeal, even if it must be brewed with a little symbolism and allegory, and is brewed less as a chum bucket of beers. The Lips of Faith Super Cru jumps up the glass with a thick off-white head, settling to about a finger’s height, with a deep clear amber color and lots of bubbles. The specter of Fat Tire rises from the glass, with its distinct nutty aroma, but the Super Cru is maltier and darker in accordance with its Prime Directive as a Belgian Strong Ale. I also catch a note of sulfur, as if a pils has snuck into the mix, and a touch of Frambozen, with some raspberry notes bundled into the smell as well. The flavor is like the aroma in that the Fat Tire tastes are the first to step out of the bottle, surrounded by carbonation and a healthy, heavy palate. The aftertaste is long and stuffed with alcohol, with a light mineral touch, a heavy malty sweetness and a touch of pistachio. It’s not abundantly sweet, but there’s enough sugar to satisfy a sweet tooth or too. It’s a solid beer and I’m liking it, as strangely blended as it is.
