In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. 2015 bottle. Nice clear red with a pink head. Aroma of cherries, cherry pits, marzipan, some wood and some milky buttery touches. Sweetish-sourish-bitterish flavor with cherries and milky notes. Medium-bodied. Decent.

At a tasting, thanks, smallish head, clear red color, with purple hues, aroma of cherries, pits and wood, fruity, marzipan flavor, light sourness, light to medium bitterness. Qutie tasty but also quite simple.

Very thin mouthfeel, but a big massive tart cherry flavor. So addicting. It’s tart and puckering...but in such a good way. This is a fun one to drink.

Light ruby red appearance and head. Aroma of sour, fruit and alcohol. Thin, sour palate. It’s not bad.

Ruby red with a pink head. Deep sweet cherry aroma. Smooth full bodied and only a hint of actual cherry ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: pours with a large pink head that settles into a small head with a bit of density to it, the beer is a clear ruby red Aroma: cherry, heavy cream Taste: moderate sourness, cherry, some bitterness throughout, tart Palate: soft carbonation, leaves mouth dry, medium mouthfeel, cherry aftertaste Overall: decent beer, not overly powerful in any category except the nice ruby red color, not very sour or cherry, a good balanced kriek for a beginner to the style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ruby hued, translucent, minimal head. Light acid, raspberry, cherry, muddled sweetness. Light body. Acid finish lingers slightly.

Clear, dark red pour with the best head I’ve seen from a kriek ale (though it did fade quickly and leave little lacing). Nice notes of fresh, tart cherries, with nice earthy undertones. Could be a bit more sour and juicy but still a nice one.

Keg at Bagby, Oceanside, 14/11/14. Clear cherry red with a decent crimson swirl and edgeing. Nose is tarte cherry, light acidic notes, straw, berry fruit, damp cloth. Taste comprises cherry drops, sweeter notes than the nose suggests, less soured berry fruit, damp hay. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok fruit beer but nothing to get excited about.

Pours a clear pinkish red color with a pinkish colored head. Aroma is faint grass, cherry, sour, and tart. Taste is cherry, grass, weak sour, no tart. Decent beer but for a kriek I expected a lot more sour, this has no pucker factor to it at all, more like mixing cherries with champagne.
