COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

Clear, dark red pour with the best head I’ve seen from a kriek ale (though it did fade quickly and leave little lacing). Nice notes of fresh, tart cherries, with nice earthy undertones. Could be a bit more sour and juicy but still a nice one.

Keg at Bagby, Oceanside, 14/11/14. Clear cherry red with a decent crimson swirl and edgeing. Nose is tarte cherry, light acidic notes, straw, berry fruit, damp cloth. Taste comprises cherry drops, sweeter notes than the nose suggests, less soured berry fruit, damp hay. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok fruit beer but nothing to get excited about.

Pours a clear pinkish red color with a pinkish colored head. Aroma is faint grass, cherry, sour, and tart. Taste is cherry, grass, weak sour, no tart. Decent beer but for a kriek I expected a lot more sour, this has no pucker factor to it at all, more like mixing cherries with champagne.

Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement onctueuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Légère présence de cerises en arrière goût. (Rating #6185)

Pours a clear cherry red with a small pinkinsh head that fades into a rim that leaves low lacing. Nose is of straight cherry pie and kriek-ish indeed. Taste is of cherry and not too sweet or artificial. Body is light to medium, carbonation moderate and it never felt too heavy. Overall a good but simple offering, drinkable but would definitely benefit from some funkiness.

Bottle (22 oz). From kbudd19, thanks! Split with the Québec crew.

Appearance: Clear bright red with pink reflects, a medium pinkish head and some lacing.

Aroma: Jammy cherries along light spiciness, herbal notes, light brettanomyces and hints of cough syrup.

Taste: Low acidity level as well as mild sweetness. Cherries are a little less jammy than in the aroma. There’s still some spiciness, herbal notes and hints of oak.

Palate: Medium body. Medium to high carbonation. Mild herbal finish. A tad oaky too.

Overall: Easily drinkable, but rather unidimensional fruit beer. I thought the Boon lambic would give a bit more complexity to this one. The 8% abv is really well hidden. Good.

bottle shared by tom10101 or is it mathieuc? thanks anyways. pours unclear bright red-pink with a nice small pink cap, revivinv and leaving nice lacing. cherry and blueberries pie - not bursting per say but kind of jammy without its cloying sugars if at all possible; some sweetness though - cherry meat; some spicy cinnamon sticks along other spices, woodsiness, grass, pepper. lively carbonation, light to medium body - oily but surprisingly not too heavy; semi-sweet and lightly astringent woodsy-grassy-spicy finish. fairly linear fruity notes with faint yet appreciable barreling components. enjoyable!
