COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

Vibrant cranberry (or jolly-rancher) red, little head. Aroma is subdued. Some macerated cherries come out but you have to strain your nose to find it. Not as acidic as a Kriek or Flanders ale would be. Somewhat malty. Medium in body. Candy fruitiness. I wish it had more acidity and a concentrated cherry flavor. As it stands, it’s dull and uninspiring. The color is the most vibrant thing about it. Now that I think about it, it does remind me of a Boon kriek (which it is mixed in with), and has the same candy artificiality. Honestly, my homebrew attempt at a Kriek was better.

Deep red body with a lite pink cap. Massive sour aroma and flavor. ...... my face got sucked insideout. Tart cherry, sugar, barn, more stuff. Cherry juice really comes out the longer this sits. BACTERIA! !! I can dig this.

Serving: Bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a deep red color with a slightly pinkish head. There is a touch of funk and fresh cherries in the nose. The flavor reminds me of cherry Kool-Aid and a Flanders red mixed together. This one didn’t work for me.

generic fruit beer seems an odd category for this... "Boon Kriek is pretty good in my book, but nothing special. Rounding it out with a "full bodied golden ale" seemed to be just the ticket. the mouthfeel is smooth, soft, and just right, and it leads right into a seriously complex sour cherry flavor, and bittersweet finish. the aroma is a little underwhelming, just like the dark kriek-especially for how good the flavor is. pours straight up red. i really like both their krieks, but am still questioning the frequency i’ll be drinking these rather expensive beers. bottle - Pours bright red with a small, off-white head. It has a nice cherry aroma. It tastes of tart cherries and sweet malt. Medium bodied and a bit earthy, it has a full fruit flavor and is very good.

Bottled sample shared with oakbluff. Ruby red in colour with medium carbonation. Sweetish aromas of cherry pie (crust included) and pale malt. More sweet cherry and vanilla in the mouth, but backed by some menthol notes. Starts off sweet, but picks up some tartness as it moves towards a dry finish. Sits somewhere between a New Glarus fruit beer and a traditional Belgian Kriek. Alcohol is well hidden. A bit on the simple side, but not bad overall.
