COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

Vibrant cranberry (or jolly-rancher) red, little head. Aroma is subdued. Some macerated cherries come out but you have to strain your nose to find it. Not as acidic as a Kriek or Flanders ale would be. Somewhat malty. Medium in body. Candy fruitiness. I wish it had more acidity and a concentrated cherry flavor. As it stands, it’s dull and uninspiring. The color is the most vibrant thing about it. Now that I think about it, it does remind me of a Boon kriek (which it is mixed in with), and has the same candy artificiality. Honestly, my homebrew attempt at a Kriek was better.

Dark plum purple color. Lasting white ring head. Dry palate. Woody flavor with some cherry. Dry. Sour. Tasty, cherry pulp flavor. Super dry and tartness makes it hard t repeat thougb.

bottle - Pours bright red with a small, off-white head. It has a nice cherry aroma. It tastes of tart cherries and sweet malt. Medium bodied and a bit earthy, it has a full fruit flavor and is very good.

Bottled sample shared with oakbluff. Ruby red in colour with medium carbonation. Sweetish aromas of cherry pie (crust included) and pale malt. More sweet cherry and vanilla in the mouth, but backed by some menthol notes. Starts off sweet, but picks up some tartness as it moves towards a dry finish. Sits somewhere between a New Glarus fruit beer and a traditional Belgian Kriek. Alcohol is well hidden. A bit on the simple side, but not bad overall.

Red pour with pink head. Aroma is tart berries, red candies. High carbonation, quite sour with tart cherry flavour. The finish is slightly lactic, but there’s also some hop bitterness clashing with the tart fruit.

This was more like a lambic than a fruit beer. Sour cherry aroma with some yeast. Nice cherry or ruby color with an off-white head that quickly dissipated. Light palate with a sharp dryness and stong carbonation. Sour cherry up front with a harsh hop bitterness that gives way to a dry finish. The sour aftertaste lingers for a while. Refreshing change from the norm.

Deep red with pink head. Aroma: cherries, slightly citrusy sour, but also a sweet component, little funk. Taste: cherries, nice amount of sourness, lemon, tart, overripe. Well made pretty clean kriek!

Pours a deep ruby red. Almost artificial looking. Nose of tart cherry. Flavour of sour cherries. Very one dimensional bland. Somewhat disappointing. From the Strath.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2014 650 ml bottle. Pours a ruby red with moderate pink head. Aromas of candied cherries, cranberries, and light barnyard. Flat/muted flavors of cherries and malt with a bit of funk. Dry and highly carbonated. Seems to be a watered down version, flatter version of a Belgian. Was expecting more.

650mL bottle. Pours a clear blood red with a generous cap and sticky lacing. Aroma of cherries, funk, straw. Taste is sweet and tart. Crisp mouthfeel. Tangy.

Beautiful deep cranberry red with a pink head. Huge tart cherry smell with slight funk behind the aroma. Big sour cherry taste a little sweet but finishes with a light cherry after taste.
