COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

Pours clear blood red with white-pink thinly bubbled head. Aroma is intensely cherry, like starburst candy. Taste is equally tart and sour, not intensely so. Balance of sweet and tart makes it quite refreshing. More balanced than I expected--Belgian restraint over American flavor bomb. Not up there with New Glarus but still very good.

Pink with a pinkish head - Aroma of cherries - Nice malt to support the cherries that gives hints of sourness - The cherreis goes into the finish with hints of sourness - This was good and refreshing

From notes on 3/29/15 Not to tart. Good amount of cherry flavor. Not as big and flavorful as I was hoping. Still, pretty good.

Appearance: beautiful (in an almost unrealistic way) clear red, with a short-lived electric pink head the color of cotton candy. Aroma: bright cherries in light syrup, a hint of vanilla and almond, a dose of wood and pipe tobacco, maybe some honey, light balsamic demi glace too. Taste: sweeter than anticipated, with minimal cherry tartness but big cherry character, along with a muddle of stone fruit, wood, leather, and a hint of tootsie roll. Finish: slightly earthy, a bit musty, and quicker than expected. Notes: Was thinking this would be more of a traditional kriek, but it was much less tart/sour, and much more in the sweet cherry juice blended with a lager vein. Drank almost like water, but the palate wasn’t all that watery. Not sure exactly what to think of this one. I like a traditional kriek a lot, and this was definitely not that. But I didn’t dislike it either. Bottle from Roots Market.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. 2015 bottle. Nice clear red with a pink head. Aroma of cherries, cherry pits, marzipan, some wood and some milky buttery touches. Sweetish-sourish-bitterish flavor with cherries and milky notes. Medium-bodied. Decent.
