COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

22oz bomber. Pours a clear pink, strange, and settles out to a cranberry color with a white/pink fine small froth 3.5. Aroma reminds me a bit of their Dark Kriek, cherries, pie crust, grainy, pool water, some tartness and acidity, again, the aroma is a bit at odds. Can totally smell the boon kriek in there (which I also had recently). Bah... I bet I could make this at home... blend some NB with some Boon... done. This beer is not as good as Boon Kriek and probably not as good as the NB beer by itself either. I have the same issues here as I had with the Dark Kriek. The increased alcohol is dull on the tongue, grainy, earthy, some off-putting bitterness, pool-water, some tartness but lighter cherry flavor, some light pie-crust/yeast, not too terribly sweet. Medium/light bodied with softer but nice fizzy carbonation, not sticky, lightly syrupy in the finish, alcohol numbs the tongue a bit. I really dig the idea, but the point is to make a beer greater than the sum of its parts not worse... Nice looking bottle though. This is the kind of beer that makes me angry.

On tap @ Ei8ht Ball / Bellevue KY --- Light cherry and malt aroma. Clear light amber with a rose tint, ivory rim head, thin lace stripes. Taste is light malt that segues easily to bing cherry. Medium fizz. Basically no bittering. Light and refreshing. On a hot day I’d welcome another.

Transatlantique Kriek was the selected starter beer for a series of Belgian Krieks. Despite being the least Belgian of the Krieks in the lineup it wasn’t any less tasty. Red pour with pink suds. Cherry aromas with some woodiness from the oak. Fruity flavor from cherry and citrus but not especially tart; very mild-mannered. Some wood notes but the earthiness is left at a minimum. Fizzy feel yet not quite acetic. A very tasty Lips of Faith offering.

From 22oz bottle to snifter. Pour is a nice and bright ruby color with a very thing white quickly dissipating head. Nose is cherry, wine notes, slight wheat. Taste is slightly sour, then rounds out sweetly. Leaves a juicy mouthfeel and a pleasant aftertaste. Cool style.

Certainly not a bad beer, just not what I expected in a kriek. I like the flavor, I'd like a bit more sourness to this one for my taste ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at LC asheville. It’s good. NB just knows what they are doing with sours- so impressive for such a large scale brewing company. Pours a delicious pink color with a nice looking head. Sour and complex- cherries all the way through. Bright and not too sweet. Little bit funky. Best one of the day. Too bad it was Cary’s.
