COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This wild Colorado version of the Belgian Dubbel ropes you in with clove and dark fruit aromas. Deeply rich and malty, every sip has a creamy texture true to Belgian tradition before it rides off with hints of black pepper and cinnamon from the addition of shisandra berries.

From 22oz bottle to tulip glass. Pour is a dark hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma is malty, figs, banana, spicy. Taste is bitter, medium bodied with some fruity sweetness mixed in. Fizzy carbonation which is complimenting and adds another dimension. Nice clean finish, pretty good beer.

Deep and dark mahogany brown with a dense head. Aroma is a bit farmy. Taste leads with some tartness and smoothed out in the end.

22 oz bottle. This one pours a dark brown color with a reddish hue and crowned by a small head of tan colored foam that slowly settles to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of dark fruits with raisins and plums coming through followed by clove, spices, and a Belgian yeast character. Some black pepper spice and cinnamon meld in with the dark caramel malt base. The flavor follows with the dark fruits, raisins, and plum up front followed by cinnamon, clove, and and black pepper spice. The dark caramel malts seem to tie everything together. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a slight sweet and spicy finish. Not bad and definitely a different take on the style with the addition of the berries.

It’s just okay. Color of iced tea, beige head. Friendly on the nose, some spice, biscuity. Taste left me disappointed... Some sweet malts, plum, a bit boozy in the finish. Somewhat dry too.

December 26th, 2013 - New Belgium goes wild in their LoF Wild Dubbel, a dark, dark brown beer with a great, thick soupy head. It’s like a smooth tan bubble bath, before I poke my nose in there. Piercing the outer crust, I get a spicy scent, like a strange, exotic spice shop, with glue, stone, and floral tones, with lots of scented soap. In a nutshell (though not smelling of one), it smells nothing like your usual dubbel, typically rich in those wood and cheese notes. And the taste is similarly deviant. I blame these mysterious sounding berries. There’s dubbel notes way, way underneath, especially with traces of fig, dark berries and such. But all of that is eclipsed by a peppery zest that runs through the whole of the flavor. The end features touches of bubble gum - possibly a product of the schisandta, with a sharp, floral note on the end. Not the traditional stuff, but I knew that when I saw the Lips of Faith circle rise high up on the bottle.

Pours a hazy medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty, hoppy, yeasty. Flavor is moderately sweet, alcoholic, roasty dark.

Bottled sample from happy harrys. Great dubbel and the addition of the berries are a nice touch. Loved the burgundy colour...what a treat

A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a two finger thick, pale amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, rich red-stained, amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma has lots of fruit character to it that is accentuated by clove like yeast spiciness; notes of ripe, concentrated plums, touches of watermelon, perhaps a hint of sweet vegetable like note, some touches of berry leaning prickly pear. Once you start to really dissect the nose you also get a bit of plastic leaning phenolic character in the finish.

Soft and creamy, but light enough still, there is soft, prickly carbonation here as well, but the texture really lingers on in the finish with a creamy heft to it. Lightly sweet, which is amplified by the ample fruit character; floral plum notes, 5-spice scented fig jam (without the sweetness), date butter, as well as caramelized, brown bread character, and sweet, red-grain crackers. There is a touch of savory quality here, even perhaps a bit of smokiness, both of these might be contributed by a bit of a phenolic character in this beer. A touch of plastic like character lingers through to the finish.

Not bad, quite drinkable actually, and I like the texture that this has. Though the light, phenolic plastic note in the finish throws things off just a bit.

Originally sampled on 1/7/14- Dark, red-tinted brown, 1/2 finger of mostly white head. OK retention. Fades to film. Slight lacing.Aromas of Belgian yeasts, dark fruit with mere suggestions of raisin & spice notes with clove, lighter cinnamon. Flavors of roasted malt up front with muted fruit notes. Yeast forward. Clove, allspice, cinnamon. Some leather and chocolate pop up at the end. Alcohol is well hidden, moderately high carbonation.
