Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer.

Bottle - thanks Nick! Pours hazy gold. Aroma is tropical fruit - passion fruit, mango, etc. taste: sweet tropical punch, only very slightly tart. Basically juice. Light body, soft carb, slightly slick texture. Overall; not gross, which makes me breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to this series. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(tap) clear yellow colour with a small white head; initially sour aroma, then champagne like; balanced and subdued flavour, with a bit of funk; not that great, and not close to berliner weiss

Very interesting flavor in this beer. Having never tasted yuzu, I didn’t know what to expect. The flavor seems to be a mix of papaya, tangerine, and a hint of banana. There is a mild tartness to the beer. Slow drinking.

Bottle cheers to Ken. Not quite sure what an ’imperial’ Berlinner Weisse is but whatever. Clear straw yellow pour with a small white head. Nice lacing. Nose is quite herbal with citric juice, pepper, tangy tropical fruits, and light zest. Kind of like a lemon and passionfruit and melon mix. Not overly sour. Taste shows odd citric juice and herbal green tea mixed together. Melon, rockmelon, lime juice, coriander, spice and zest. Unusual and not really my thing

Bottle. Moderate malt aroma of straw, light to moderate flowers and perfume for the hops, light soap and musty for the yeast, with pineapple, wood, and a hint of vinegar in the background. Head is small, fizzy, white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear light yellow. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes, lightly sweet and acidic. Palate is medium, watery with a carbonation between soft and fizzy. A bit stinky in the beginning and the body is a little heavy for a Berliner Weisse, sweeter too, but it’s fruity and very easy drinking.

Bottle shared at my 5K tasting at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Kenny whose dault all of this is !!! A pimped up Berliner Weisse is the random pick for beer number 5K, 13/11/13. Hazed golden blonde with a thin off white covering. Nose is tarte fruits, lemon dipped straw, spice, marjoram, waft of smoke. Taste comprises lime juice, citric dipped straw with light charring, spice, earthy, tangy orange peel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry grassy finale with a little puckering whimper. Ok Berliner and you hardly notice the ABV - may as well be 4% !

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - thanks to Kenny. Pours clear gold with a foamy white head. The nose has some lime and lemongrass. Medium sweet flavor, a bit of pale bread, faint menthol, lemon, faint grassy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, lime candies, a bit of white bread. Drinks pretty good for the ABV.

Clear golden with a fast-dissipating head. The nose is quite elegant and exotic with bright fruity tones of guava, peppercorn, and something I can only describe as fruity/clean linen Fabreeze. The flavor is a bit juicy/lightly syrupy with notes of guava and something like pineapple, some yellow apple, and pear. Light citric bitterness throughout to balance.

A steady pour into my teku glass produces a two-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a light golden color that shows an absolutely brilliantly clear, crystalline, yellow-gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma is tart up front with increasing notes of floral lime zest, perhaps hints of pepper, funky citrus notes, and light Juicy Fruit gum notes. Soft, supporting, pale grain notes provide a bit of hay like character, and perhaps a hint of saltine cracker like grain.

Tart tasting up front, and again the citrus character becomes more prominent through to the middle and finish. The beer is fairly light bodied, has a persistent prickly carbonation, though it has some viscosity to it that lingers a bit on the palate; it drinks on the light side for an 8% beer though. The citrus notes are a combination of key lime, hints of lychee, sour mandarin, some Curacao orange, and just a funky not quite describable fruitiness. There is a soft grain character to this beer that has a bit of dried straw character, some cracker like maltiness, and a touch of rounded wheat laden sourdough bread character.

Not bad, the citrus character adds an interesting dimension here, there is an interesting edge to the fruit character (almost has a vegetal edge to it as it warms up), though the base beer is a bit on the simplistic side.
