COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer.

A steady pour into my teku glass produces a two-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a light golden color that shows an absolutely brilliantly clear, crystalline, yellow-gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma is tart up front with increasing notes of floral lime zest, perhaps hints of pepper, funky citrus notes, and light Juicy Fruit gum notes. Soft, supporting, pale grain notes provide a bit of hay like character, and perhaps a hint of saltine cracker like grain.

Tart tasting up front, and again the citrus character becomes more prominent through to the middle and finish. The beer is fairly light bodied, has a persistent prickly carbonation, though it has some viscosity to it that lingers a bit on the palate; it drinks on the light side for an 8% beer though. The citrus notes are a combination of key lime, hints of lychee, sour mandarin, some Curacao orange, and just a funky not quite describable fruitiness. There is a soft grain character to this beer that has a bit of dried straw character, some cracker like maltiness, and a touch of rounded wheat laden sourdough bread character.

Not bad, the citrus character adds an interesting dimension here, there is an interesting edge to the fruit character (almost has a vegetal edge to it as it warms up), though the base beer is a bit on the simplistic side.

22 ounce bottle into signature globe glass, bottled on 6/27/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense bright white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of pear, apple, lemon, peach, wheat, floral, herbal, grass, light pepper, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and interesting aromas with good balance of malt, fruit, and yeast ester notes with good strength. Taste of pear, apple, peach, lemon, wheat, floral, herbal, grass, musty funk, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, lemon, peach, wheat, floral, herbal, grass, light pepper, musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Decent balance and complexity of malt, fruit, and yeast ester flavors; with light flavor robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very crisp and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a decent Berliner Weisse. Not really a whole lot going on in the flavors, but is smooth and drinkable with good flavor balance. Fairly enjoyable stuff.

Pours a hazy gold with a slight head. Candy sour aroma, followed by chalky sweet tart flavor. Fun beer

On tap at Hagermeister Park. Pours a straw golden color with medium puffy head. Something just tasted off with this beer.

22oz bottle pours a clear, lime gold with some spitty white head. Nose is interesting, lime, some jackfruit, a little curry, grass. Flavor is sweet, lightly salty, soapy, lime, lemon-lime soda, a little grass. Clean finish. Simple.

Pale yellow with a white head. Tart lemon aroma. Lemony tart with underlying sweetness. To me its a witbier.

Bottled the one time Itís a light grain colored ale with a fine broken sheet of bone whites. Smells sweet and grainy, a touch of funk when I first opened the bottle is gone in ten minutes. The are notes of grape and witbier on the nose also. Flavor is sweet, fruity, some apple meat, some hints of lemony tartness, but really this is not apparent until the beer warms quite a bit. The flavor is dominated by this tropical fruity character and itís sweetness. Medium on heavy for the style with low carb as well. This is another miss from New Belgium as of late. Getting tired of shelling out $7-$10 for these misses.

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2013 Smells like a cross between Pampers and sweet grapefruit juice. Taste is actually pretty nice - a tart wheat beer.

Draft. Strange straw yellowish color, with a small head. Fruity, light tartness, wheat, sweet, off-ripe fruit, and a bit of citrus. Tastes like a weird dipping sauce that you could get at an Asian restaurant. Not very enjoyable to drink.
