COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a thin, poorly retained white head, with some lacing, over a hazy yellow (SRM 3) body.....nose is light lactic acid, tangerine from the Yuzu, light cereal malts, no hop aroma.....taste is light lactic acid, light citrus (tangerine, lemon) from the Yuzu, mild cereal tones from the malts, leading to a mildly acidic, moderately dry finish......mouth feel light of medium, alcohol hidden, carbonation adds tingle. This really is NOT a Berliner Weisse. It needs a great deal more acid to meet that lovely style. Just because there was some time with Lactobacilli does not create that beer. It is more of a Saison with the light acid and the fruit tones. BJCP 6/3/9/4/5

On tap. An 8% imperial Berliner that tastes like it's 8%. Too much boozy bite, lacks the refreshing Berliner qualities I love. Yet, I continue drinking it.

Golden with virtually zero head or lace. Ripe tangerines (yuzu?) fill the aroma and massage my palate. Tons of grain; quite malty. Prickly carb. Dry as a desert, and not lactic at all. More of a (mildly) nectarine-infused Belgian golden ale than a Berliner. Not bad, just swings & misses at the style.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy pale gold with a small white head. Aroma of fruit, yeast, and malt. Taste is citrus, apples, malt, yeast, and grain. Decent.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent gold with ample white head. Smells of lacto and citrus. Tastes like it smells, only off, with an average (at best) mouthfeel. Probably the yuzu that throws it off. Underwhelming for any style, and way off for a Berliner.

This is a decent beer but it does not have the traditional Berliner Weisse flavor. I am missing a little tartness. Bright yellow, sparkling with a soft white head and solid lacing. Flimsy aroma, but nothing off-putting. The yuzu flavor is understated, and it is not overly sweet, but I would like a little more of that tart green apple bw flavor.

On tap at Old Chicago Thornton poured a hazy gold with a small lingering white head. Aromas of wheat, yeast, citrus and light lactic notes. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of wheat, yeast citrus and a hint of lactic notes with a crisp dry lightly tart finish.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2013 Bright yellow, nice sized white head. Smells fruity, floral, with some other undefined sweet notes. Taste is fruity - like, berries of some sort, with a touch of citrus. Nicely tart finish. The palate seems a little heavy. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that this is result of trying to make an "imperial" version of a style whose defining characteristic (one of them, anyway) is low alcohol...

22 oz bottle. Pours pale golden with a white head and a light haze. No real aroma at first, but later some acidic citrus is detectable. Orange/lemony citrus and pear fruit combination in the flavor, oregano, a little biscuity wheat and acidity. Tastes okay, but it’s pretty light and rather one-note.

Comes out of the tap a hazy golden yellow with a thin white head. Crisp, fruity aroma has yeasty and malty notes. Malty flavor has pear, apple and yeasty tones plus a sweet floral hint. Mouthfeel is firm and silky smooth with a subtle but lasting tingle. So, the apple/pear aroma and taste must be from the yuzu. Good fruit for a beer.

Bottle @ home. Thanks for sharing, Jake. Clear golden pour with a white head. Sweet, sugary nose. Herbs, lemongrass, and actually some alcohol. Oregano, yuzu, and lemon. Flavor is yuzu, sweet malt, sugar, and oregano. Not very pleasant.
