Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer.

22 ounce bottle - $8.49 at Bullock’s Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a light, pale yellow body, lightly hazed, with a slim, white head.

Smell: Lightly sweet-scented, lemony nose with a vein of savory spice, it’s a bit perfumy like a scented bar of soap. Lacks the lactic, that much is certain.

Taste: Citrusy, lemony with a smooth tone of wheat malt. Mild sweetness. Savory, herbal quality throughout. Nil hop character, bitterness. A little tangy, acidic, but the anticipated, hoped for lactic element is absent.

Mouthfeel: Falls about medium-plus body, though barely. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: It totally forgoes all of the best attributes of a Berliner Weisse. Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining.

Wheaty, fruity, interesting. This beer is nice and light and a bit on the sour side. Its not really meant for me...

Looks and smells like perfume that doesn't go away. I've had good Berliners-this isn't one of them. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Hazy yellow-straw body, thin clumping off-white head. Tart, fruity, grassy nose with light clove notes. Tart, spicy, fruity body, estery; the delicate base beer is washed out by the additions and the overall effect is cloying.

Soft cloudy blonde pour. One finger of tight white head. Nose is floral and fruity with some tropical notes and a bright acidity. Flavor is tart with a light funk. Fruit skin and tropical notes in the flavor. Light and dry.

Clear golden pour with fair bright white head. Light citrus nose with faint breadiness. Flavor is quite sweet. Maybe the lacto hasn’t set in yet? Kinda like fruit juice. Didn’t really care for it all that much.

Draft @ Crispy’s. Pours a light hazy gold with clingy white foam on top. Aroma is lemony and acidic. Flavor is unabashedly sour, tart, and fruity, but with a creaminess in the background that cuts some of the astringent character. I can see how this may not appeal to many folks but I really enjoyed it.

9/25/13. 22oz bottle from Grassroots. This comes highly recommended from womencantbrokensailwalezbro or something like that. Super clear dark golden pour, apple juice like, with a really nice off-white head that cuts in half but really sticks and laces really well. Creamy fruit smell with creamed corn - seem to be getting that from New Belgium beers lately - with a bit of orange peel and spice. Lightly tart, doughy flavor, hints at a berliner, but then sweetness, corn, and fruit takes over. Meh.
