Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer.

Bottle. Aroma is yuzu, lemon, straw, and a bit of funk. Appearance is crystal clear gold with a thin white head. Taste is citrus, with a bit of funky yeast spice. Not as tart as most berliners. Light body with good carbonation and a dry finish. Overall an okay beer but nothing worth seeking out.

The aroma is tantalizing. Tart lemon, lime, maybe some slight wood. This is maybe the bets part of this beer. Looks like it should hazy gold spotty head and lacing. Opaque. Taste isn’t bad but it isn’t Berliner. Lemon juice , sweet, wheaty, maybe a slight farmhouse influence. A good beer, a bad Berliner.

Bottle. Pours a clear yellow with a foamy, clean white head. Aroma is sweet fruit, a little spice, a little bread and a little booze. Flavor is sweet fruit, citrus, light tart, light spice and a warm finish. Medium bodied, low carbonation. It doesn’t really taste like a berliner weiss at all. But it is tasty.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, clear yellow-orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes f slight fruit juice, tropical fruit, hints of bread, cracker, biscuit, hints of earth, slight spice, almost a guava type note. Taste is a mix of fruit juice, weird guava or trashy notes, hints of biscuit, bread, slight earth, finishing slightly sweet and dry. No lactic notes, and a far cry from a berliner. Easy to drink but really a bad berliner.

Bottle. Pours pee yellow. Fruity, sugar aroma. Taste is not really all that tart. Some sugar, tropical fruits, spice. Slightly dry finish. Almost laughable to call this a berliner weisse.

14 karat Crayola yellow pour with a small wispy head that quickly diminishes to absolutely nothing. Ample carbonation percolating from the bottom of the glass. Tart unripened citrus, lime zest, lemon peel, fruitiness, and slight wheat, lactic, and herbal qualities. Enjoyed the sour but not terribly complex. Probably won’t approach this one again.

22 oz bottle from Campus West. Golden yellow and slightly hazy with a small white head and active carbonation. The aroma is citrus, tart fruits, wheat malts, wild yeast and light alcohol. Similar flavor, fruity, tangy and lightly tart with a medium body and a dry finish

Draft. Lactic lemon and wheat malt aroma. Hazy yellow with a moderate white head. Sweet-tart lactic lemon, light funky, and black pepper flavor. Light body, soft carbonation. I found it quite pleasant and refreshing.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear straw gold with a fizzy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet lemons and tropical fruit with floral notes and a little tartness.

The flavor is sweet tropical fruit (yuzu?) with a little light sour tartness. It has a bit of an off burnt plastic note in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth prickly carbonation.

Overall, an interesting beer with lightly sour fruit.

Very pale yellow, rather cloudy liquid. Aroma is acidic and quite odd. Taste is somewhat musty, yeasty and quite acidic with a hint of lemon. Interesting and different, but it’s not very good.
