Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer.

Hazy golden pour with a white head. The aroma has some fruit notes (I assume it is yuzu) as well as a lot of biscuit and bready malt. The flavor is similar. There is a strong orange/yuzu note with some light cinnamon and apple notes, as well as some biscuit malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice, just not really any tartness and the alcohol got a bit boozy as I drank more of the bomber.

Bottle... Poured pale yellow with a moderate egg-shell/white head. Nose had faint fruits, definitely yuzu coming through. Tasted earthy and herbal, yuzu reminded of faint tea spice. Some wheated tones came through nicely with a dry mouthfeel especially towards the finish. Just a touch of acid. I wish there was more sourness here, but still a fine tasting beer.

The sourness in this beer is like a picked cactus juice. Plenty of acid, but the malts just don’t carry the weight of the beer. A good idea for a beer, but not as good a result as many of this brewer’s other ideas yield.

Bomber Bottle, it had a clear yellow-pale gold pour and made a white one finger or more head of bubbles, head receded to a thin cover and sticky ring, it left nice lacing on the glass, the aromas were light wheat and lactid notes with some citrus and tropical fruit with a little lemon like fruit, little to no hops at all, the nose was about medium in strength or touch more, as this beer warmed up, the nose on this beer got a little funky, probably from the lactid notes in this beer ? I did not mind though (I like Limburger cheese, so…), I would recommend drinking this beer when cold, it had flavors of wheat and a little malt with yuzu fruit (which I had not sampled but found it to be tropical with a slight resemblance to lemon), there was citrus and a bit of tartness with a little sweetness, the finish had some lactid and citrus tartness, it was drying on the mouth, a little of the fruit flavor and sweetness traveled on, the mouth feel was less than medium, it was creamy and had average carbonation, a light wheat and malt beer with some tropical fruit, I thought the balance between the beer and fruit was pretty good, the 8% in this beer was hidden well, I would enjoy this beer on a warm evening, it was cool and refreshing.

Wife bought a bomber, I sampled some in a small glass. Light golden color with white head. Aroma of sour yeast, wheat malt and some some fruity/citrus notes. Taste added some green apple/pear fruity nuances, some grainy notes and a slight peppery/oregano spice note. Medium body, average carbonation, sweet, tart with a dry finish. Reminds me of a hefeweizen done with sour yeast. Alright light sipper, not one I’d go for again.

Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours a slightly hazy straw gold with instantly settling white head, no lace. Aroma is fruity, mango, papaya, wheaty, sour, mildly lactic/acidic. Flavor is fruity, mango, guava, with a mildly wheaty, tart finish. Not much Berliner weisse character here, too sweet and boozy, glad to see it classified as a fruit beer. Soft carbonation, medium body, and a juicy, syrupy texture. A mess of a Berliner weisse, and pretty weird for a fruit beer. Interesting, but once is enough.

Bomber: Aroma is a wonderful yeasty, tart, lightly fruity libation with a minimally cloudy yellow body and a frothy white head that disappears slowly. Taste is got the nice refreshing belinerweiss note with the yuzu fruitiness, slightly tart and somewhat sweet. Palate has a lingering tartness and a medium carbonated mouth feel. Aftertaste is lightly dry with some lingering tartness. Overall, Nice stuff. Cheers!

I'm not overly familiar with this style, and have no clue what a yuzu is, but this is a smooth drinking beer. Wheat-oriented malt with just the right amount of sourness, and then infused with a lemony tartness although little citrus flavor permeates the sourness. Surprised the ABV is as high as it is at 8%. 651 ml. bottle. Pours a thin, poorly retained white head, with some lacing, over a hazy yellow (SRM 3) body.....nose is light lactic acid, tangerine from the Yuzu, light cereal malts, no hop aroma.....taste is light lactic acid, light citrus (tangerine, lemon) from the Yuzu, mild cereal tones from the malts, leading to a mildly acidic, moderately dry finish......mouth feel light of medium, alcohol hidden, carbonation adds tingle. This really is NOT a Berliner Weisse. It needs a great deal more acid to meet that lovely style. Just because there was some time with Lactobacilli does not create that beer. It is more of a Saison with the light acid and the fruit tones. BJCP 6/3/9/4/5

On tap. An 8% imperial Berliner that tastes like it's 8%. Too much boozy bite, lacks the refreshing Berliner qualities I love. Yet, I continue drinking it.

Golden with virtually zero head or lace. Ripe tangerines (yuzu?) fill the aroma and massage my palate. Tons of grain; quite malty. Prickly carb. Dry as a desert, and not lactic at all. More of a (mildly) nectarine-infused Belgian golden ale than a Berliner. Not bad, just swings & misses at the style.
