COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The newest offering in New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Program, Dandelion Ale, was inspired by the great hop shortage of 2008. Dandelion greens have a natural bittering effect much like hops. Reveling in the freedom of the Belgian brewing tradition, we thought this ubiquitous weed would make an interesting addition to a traditionally hopped beer. The result is a strong blond ale brewed with toasted pilsener malt, flavored with fresh picked dandelion greens and grains of paradise. Dandelion Ale is hazy and light gold in color with peachy aroma and a Belgian yeast strain. It has a unique bitterness, subtle maltiness and a creamy mouthfeel.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a golden color with a bit of haze. The nose brings some flowers with a bit of spice. There are some definite citrus notes in there as well. The taste is spicy with a bit of lemon and citrus. Flowers and a bit of light bread. Good carbonation and decent body, although in the end everything seems divergent and really didn’t come together for me. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-29-2010

Draft at Toronado. Hazy golden pour, white head. Sweet bready malt, fruit, floral and herbs, stone fruit. Interesting beer, that is fairly light and refreshing.

Pale gold and hazy. Quite sweet. A little strange. I was surprised but it works pretty well. Serving: Tap

On tap @ Toronado. Vaguely saisonish with a touch of spicy yeast and some hops on the nose. The bitterness comes in towards the finish. A touch fruity with a little mustiness.

Tap at Trinity Brewing. Pours hazy gold with a frothy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair to good lacing. Aroma is cookie malt, grain, straw, fruity yeast, pear, peach, low hops, and a nice floral bouquet. Flavor is sweet malt, low hop flavor and bitterness, floral notes with fruity esters. Medium bodied, average carbonation, and spicy.

Dark golden amber color with a stark white head. Sweet malt notes in the aroma. A little flowery with light fruit notes. A little spicy in the aftertaste. A green veggie flavor on the palate.

Pale golden pour with a creamy, hazy appearance. The nose has a touch of soft honey and light floral character. A little bit of chewy sweetness and a little bit of non-descript fruit as well. Pretty nice although I’d like to see some funk.

GABF 2009. Pours a nice hazy yellow gold with a moderate white head. Aroma is earthy grassy, herbal, nice dandelion and other herbs with hints of citrus and dirt, biscuity malt profile and some doughiness. Flavor is phenolic, grassy, herbal dandelion tea/wine, slight hint of pissenlit/fantome earthiness, dust, leather and light biscuity malts and a slight oily orange and pepper kick as well.
