Commercial Description:
Deep amber brown with a dense off-white head, Dunkelweiss 30° rediscovers Hefeweiss beers through a Belgian brewer’s lens. Envisioned by our own Matty “Smooth” Gilliland, this beer opens with sweet clove and banana notes that give way to a chocolaty warm finish with a peppery tingle across the palate. “I thought it would be fun to make a German wheat beer; we’ve explored the Belgian wheats pretty thoroughly,” said Gilliland. “Since this is Lips of Faith – and part of what makes that program fun is to make beers that are really unique and different – making a big, strong, dark Weiss beer sounded pretty folly-licious. It’ll still showcase all of the flavors that a Hefeweiss beer would have, but add in the burly body and extra punch. Think of it as a Grand Cru dunkelweiss.”

On tap at Brouwer’s Tour de Fat afterparty. Pours cloudy brown with a decent off-white head. Banana/clove smell with plenty of caramel. Rich and malty with a little charred wood in the finish.

Great bouquet from this dunkelweiss: plum, sour cherry, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, brown bread. Very drinkable, smooth palate full of flavor. Amber and gleaming in the glass. Robust grains, slightly sticky cereal, mid-palate spice. A deep, interesting beer that really hides its alcohol well.

On tap at the Parish Publick House in Santa Cruz. Poured into a pint glass. Deep dark brown with a nice ecru head that leaves impressive lacing. Aroma is bruised apples, banana pith, clove, pepper, vanilla, and a hint of bubblegum. Great smell. Taste is dark wheat bread crust with an even banana sweetness and accents of apple and spices. I would have guessed there was much less alcohol in this beer. Really delicious and drinkable. Up there with La Folie as one of the very best NB beers.

Very interesting beer. Had thiss at opal divines north location on draught. Best way to describe it is a weizenbock with a little sourness to it. This would do really well aged 6 months ina bottle. Has great potenial.
