2008 Boulder Strong Ale Fest: Light golden. Lively carbonation. Sticky malts (honey-like). Yerba mate was slightly noticeable ... earthy, faintly smoky, tea-like. In some ways it was mead-like, and in other ways it was white wine-like. Herbal aromas were pleasant. Yeast seemed to contribute well. Not too shabby.

Jun 2, 2008 Sampled ’08 BSAF. Beer is clear, light-hued golden brown. Head is small, white, frothy; mostly and quickly diminishing.<P>The aroma is malty with a light note of toasted grain; Light hop note of apricot; Light miscellaneous note of grassy green tea, tropical fruit, vanilla, moderate note of sugar syrup.<P>The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic with a long, light/moderately acidic (juicy), lightly bitter, light/moderately sweet, dirty finish.<P>The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is average.<P>Neat idea, overly sweet and vegetal, mostly under-developed.

Apr 4, 2008 draft at the brewery - Pours golden with a linger white head. It’s a fairly sweet, citrusy, yeasty brew that I found quite similar to their regular tripel. The main difference I noticed was more obvious spices in this one and it worked for me. I preferred it slightly to their regular tripel.

Apr 1, 2008 On tap @ Falling Rock poured a clear gold with a small lasting creamy white head. Aromas of banana, spice, fruittiness, light carmel and a hint of honey. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, spice and light fruittiness with a smooth lingering spicy bittersweet finish.

Mar 27, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Pours clear, golden yellow, lightly hazed and glassy. Almond frosting, cotton candy, and banana in the sticky aroma, chased with an appropriately dry presence of green bitterness to bring it back somewhat. Bubblegum, honey, and waffle dough with powdered sugar in the flavor; lots of jointly tart and sweet fruit flavors of pear and apple. Palate is lightly syrupy and surprisingly dense; very sweet and prickly. Finishes with dried out mate tea and bitter herb sensation; some acidity, and overall dominantly sweet, as is the base tripel.
