Commercial Description:
Deep burnished gold with a slight haze, Le Fleur Misseur opens with pineapple, clove and honey notes. Dry-hopping produces a flower leaf aroma supported by tones of fresh bread and honey. Le Fleur finishes dry and slightly herbal. Produced for New Belgium coworkers to celebrate our 15th anniversary, Le Fleur has roots in the earliest days of our history. In 1988 founder Jeff Lebesch sat weary on the side of a Belgian road when a young lad passing by picked a delicate yellow flower and offered it to Jeff. “Le Fleur, Misseur?” Jeff misspelled the boy’s comment in his journal as he accepted the offering. A treasured memory, a beer to treasure. Brewed in honor of the New Belgium’s 15th anniversary. It is a tip of the hat to Orval.

Pours yellow into the glass with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is honey sweet with a bit of stale hops and sourness. Flavor is slightly sweet malt with a significant bitterness and a bit of the brett coming through to a quick, dry finish. As I understand it this beer is a nod to Orval. Well done, but not quite on par with the master!

22oz bottle and brewery tap. Pours a pale cloudy gold with a white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Smell of light malts, a bit of candy like sugar sweetness, and some spicy hops, very crisp and clean smelling beer. Taste is light in the mouth with pale malts and a bit of a hoppy bite at the end. Mouthfeel is very light and dry, but still refreshing.

Golden-straw with some haze. Compact, tiny-bubbled white head establishes a retentive collar. Plastic-tainted nose displays lighter notes of alcohol, Sweet Tarts, plaster, and herbal hops. Muted horseblanket, Band-Aid, and toasted hay. Soft carbonic prickles. Bottle conditioned. Astringently hoppy and plasticlike with an overbearing brett-induced mineralic harshness and medicinal alcohol burn. Ghostlike pils malt contributes dry toastiness as it wavers in and out of the slick fruity esters. Hop character is fairly aggressive in both flavor and bitterness, but lacks cleanness. Brash anise and clove spice exacerbates the unclean hop bitterness. Finishes softly herbal and slickly fruity, though continually caustic and unrefined as the burning alcohol clashes with the Sweet Tart and pervasive plastic. Pretty poor and somewhat flawed. Merely a small step up from an entry-level effort.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark yellow with a pillowy white head that retains well and leaves a lot of lacing.

The aroma is bretty musty yeast (horse blanket?) with some lemon.

The flavor is sweet malts with bright lemoney fruits leading to a medium bitterness with a good amount of brett. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with great carbonation.

Overall, a great beer. I love the balance of the sweet fruits and brett. I found it best colder, as it sat it mellowed a bit too much.

Lips of Faith bottling. Slightly hazy light yellow-gold with a very fine, thin white head. Aroma consists mainly of a dry, leafy herbaceousness with an odd cannbis resin aroma. Dry honey notes intermingle with a touch of grainy malt and dry herbs. Body is light with an alcohol presence in the finish. Not terribly interesting.

On tap @ NB. Clear gold with decent white head. Nose has slight citrus with touch of honey. Flavor is a little tart, with mild citurs bitterness, and a touch of sweetness.
