Commercial Description:
Deep burnished gold with a slight haze, Le Fleur Misseur opens with pineapple, clove and honey notes. Dry-hopping produces a flower leaf aroma supported by tones of fresh bread and honey. Le Fleur finishes dry and slightly herbal. Produced for New Belgium coworkers to celebrate our 15th anniversary, Le Fleur has roots in the earliest days of our history. In 1988 founder Jeff Lebesch sat weary on the side of a Belgian road when a young lad passing by picked a delicate yellow flower and offered it to Jeff. “Le Fleur, Misseur?” Jeff misspelled the boy’s comment in his journal as he accepted the offering. A treasured memory, a beer to treasure. Brewed in honor of the New Belgium’s 15th anniversary. It is a tip of the hat to Orval.

Haxy yellow with good carbonation. Nose is really striking - lavender soap, arugula, wild grass and dandelion leaves. Flavor is more the tart horseblanket/barnyard Brett upfront and still the peppery flowers behind, with a crisp, dry finish with nice spicy pepper. Really interesting and very nice effort.

Pours a hazy, pale yellow color with a fairly small, white, pillowy head which is mostly diminishing and leaves no lace. Nose is lightly grassy, faintly floral, somewhat doughy from the yeast, and filled with some honey and grains. Flavor is similar with honey, light clove, some grains, leafy hops do make a small presence and dry the beer out a bit, just a bit of doughy yeast. Palate is lively to fizzy, light to medium, and somewhere between watery and creamy. Finishes very bland with some leafy hops and moderately light bitterness filling the mouth with, light honey, and almost soda water note. Just a very boring beer, nothing bad but not much flavor and not much complexity. Orval is not one of favorites by any means but this is not even similar to Orval.

A lightly hazed blonde ale with a thin white head. A pleasant aroma of coriander and light Brett, lightly funky. In mouth,a nice light malt with dancing Brett notes, frankincense. A well balanced Orval redux! On tap at Falling Rock Tap room, 24 Jan. 2009.

On-tap at the Falling Rock, this is a NB anniversary beer which is supposed to be an homage to Orval. I haven’t had the pleasure of sampling Orval yet so I can’t comment on that aspect. Golden yellow color with a billow of white foam at the top. Smells like only the slightest bit of funk with some citrus aspects. the taste has a slight hint of lemon and a bretty finish. This has some phenolics but they aren’t offensive or medicinal. Overall this was worth the $4.50 for a half pint. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 08-28-2008 17:34:51

On tap, copper color with clove, apple cider notes. High carbonation with a tart almost apple cider vinegar taste. Not my favorite but good.

Cloudy sunset, creamy white head. Loads of fresh orange and lemon on the nose. As a Belgian it’s pretty good, classed as a wit it’s great. Clean and smooth, quenching with plenty of bitter rind in the finish. I don’t see the comparison or tip to Orval. Not a wit?
