4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 holdenn (2023) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 9, 2010
Sampled at FOBAB ’10. I needed a few samples of this one. Poured a dirty raisin color with a beige head. Sweet berries fruit lots of acidic notes. Juicy blackberry fruits with a funky tart sweetness. A really nice blend of juicy sweetness with tartness. Not overly sweet or acidic. Solid. 8/4/8/4/16
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 deyholla (4786) - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA - NOV 9, 2010
Sampled from the tap at 2010 FOBAB. Poured a cloudy deep amber with an off-white head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a relatively strong whiskey note with a great tart blackberry note and a hint funk. Flavor began with sweet blackberry and grew to quite tart with a pretty strong whiskey backing.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 lushawn (2644) - Massachusetts, USA - NOV 7, 2010
FOBAB 2010. easily one of my favorite beers at the fest. notes of juicy fresh blackberries, bright oaky sourness, complimented nicely by creamy whiskey and vanilla. well balanced. clean. well made. awesome beer.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 BBB63 (5406) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - NOV 7, 2010
FoBAB 2010: A deep muddy purplish pour with a little head. The aroma has notes of blackberry, lacto acid, light whiskey and oak, earthy and flowery with a bit of biscuity malt. WOW, nice sour fruit and light earthy funky tone over a layer of light handed whiskey and oak. Very well balanced where the sourness accents the beer and not overpowers it. The mouth feel is smooth yet snappy around the edges with a excellent drinkability, it was hard to stop drinking this one. Simply outstanding and the best beer at the fest IMO. Two samples were not enough, I want more!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 t4h2c0 (88) - seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 30, 2010
Pours dark/blackberry color with very minimal head, almost zero. Aroma is straight bourbon with a little funk. Smells thick and syrupy. Taste is slightly sour. The bourbon flavor is overwhelming and dominates every aspect of this beer. Slight fruit taste but again bourbon comes through. Somewhat harsh on the palate, very "hot" boozy flavor. The sourness leaves your mouth dry. Overall, I would say it is a good experiment and I was glad to try it but it is not very drinkable. Maybe a little less bourbon and more sour might make this beer a little better imo.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 craftbeerdesign (2123) - Alpharetta, Georgia, USA - SEP 28, 2010
on tap at Falling Rock during the special New Belgium tappings on 9/18/10. This was the highlight of the night for me! Murky brown pour with no head. Big sour blackberry nose with lacto sourness oozing from the glass. Full body with more tart blackberry notes, whiskey and oak. Really sour over the mouth. Huge dry sour finish with layers of blackberries, whiskey and a residual sweetness. Amazing sour! I feel fortunate to have consumed a glass of this... love the whiskey/bourbon barrel aged sours!!!
