COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Felix is New Belgium’s blonde sour ale aged in oak foeders at the brewery. It is blended in various proportions in many of New Belgium’s sour wood-aged beers, such as Le Terroir and Tart Lychee.

How to tell you’re drinking the Felix version of Love: should be straw to orange / amber in color, not dark caramel or brown. If it’s called "Love" on a pub or festival menu, it’s most likely Felix and not Oscar.

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2010 [this was a dry hopped version of Love entitled "Felix"> From memory. On tap at Stone Sour Fest - blew three tickets on three glasses and it was worth it . .. hands down the beer of the event for me. Crisp, dry hop aroma with little hint of the sour love underneath. I could not place the taste that followed after the hops for the life of me . . . something slightly spicy, but not holiday spice, and some vegetable and . . . I have no idea. Middle-to-end flavor of dark, tart/sour spiral . . . just lingering, dominating, and perfect. An absolutely 1-of-a-kind stellar beer.

My favorite of the two at the sour fest. Big bright dry hop aroma, citrus nose. Taste was outstanding, very sour, little to no vinegar, dry with a hint of bpody left, nice and funky, but complimented quite well with the liberal hopping.

Labeled Love Barrel #3 at sour fest. Pours a hazy sunset orange. Nose is the obvious oak, nice summer fruits and stone fruits. Taste is fantastic, lots of fruits, peaches, lemon, strawberry, pineapple and grapefruit with a strong sour punch. Oak adds an earthiness that keeps it from being too fruity and balances well.

Stone sourfest. Bright orange, thin head. Nose is grassy hops with light fruits, woodsy. Flavor is light tartness up front that transitions to bitter grass-resin hops, full flavored tart sour with a complimentary hop flavor, best of the fest so far!
Earlier Rating: 8/12/2008 Total Score: 3.3
On draft at Toronado SF. Appearance is bright orange amber hue, thin white layer of head, sticky lacing on the glass. Smell is subtle tartness, light fruits, honey, floral and grassy hops, not much going on here. Taste is initially dominated by tartness and sweetness, light fruits and funk, some earthy hops and bread malts, sourness is quite subtle. Palate is medium-bodied, smooth texture, biting carbonation. Overall a balanced and moderately sour beer, long-lasting finish of biting carbonation and tartness lingers, moderate level of complexity and flavor.

Foedre #3 on draft at Toronado SF, described as "a base beer for Le Terroir, kegged personally by Dave Keene". Appearance is a dense amber/orange hue, thin white head dissipates mostly, moderate lacing. Smell is super tart and funk, light fruits, sweet sugary candy, absolutely delicious. Taste is mouth-puckering tartness that dominates from start to finish, vinegar is present, transitions partly to light fruits (pears, apples, peaches) near the end. Palate is medium-bodied, smooth moderate texture, highly carbonated. Overall, the solid tart flavors dominate with a biting carbonation presence.

Tasted on draft at Lush CBC event. Pours pale brown-orange with essentially no head. Nose is sour with green apple, some cereal, and brett funk. Flavors are super tart sour with some rubber, green apple, and vinegar. Carbonation is very lively with a medium body and a long finish. This is a great sour, and displays some of the best New Belgium has to offer.

On draught at Hamilton’s Tavern (San Diego, CA): Opaque, light orange/golden pour and no head... maybe forty small bubbles around the rim. Aroma of barnyard funk, pale malts, aged wood, and cltrus- white grapefruit, lemon meat, and stale orange juice. All around tartness, with lots of raw citrus pulp and some leather funk. Prickly carbonation. Smooth all around. Drinkability: A complement to the style. Pairing: Fried mozzarella sticks. Rebuy: Yes. #341 on 13032010, DG.

Sour cherries and currants aroma, astringent, with a dusty marigold accent. Cloudy orange, no head. Sour lemons and cherries flavor. Welcome oat malt and lemon peel finish. A sour with character. Very good beer!

draft at Brewvival. definitely one of the top 5 beers at the festival. pours a hazy, yellow-gold with a soft, pure white head and light lacing. aroma is wonderful with huge, sour cherries, tart red berries, red wine vinegar, barrel funk, and light earth with a beautiful balance of sweet florals, vanilla, and oak. flavor is, to quote my notes, "sick" with pure, funky, brett tartness, sour fruit notes of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry with hints of apple, lemon pulp, and light oak. palate is wonderfully sour and lip puckering with spritzy carbonation. if i’d not had Supplication a few days later, this would be the best sour i’ve ever tasted.
