COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Felix is New Belgium’s blonde sour ale aged in oak foeders at the brewery. It is blended in various proportions in many of New Belgium’s sour wood-aged beers, such as Le Terroir and Tart Lychee.

How to tell you’re drinking the Felix version of Love: should be straw to orange / amber in color, not dark caramel or brown. If it’s called "Love" on a pub or festival menu, it’s most likely Felix and not Oscar.

Sour cherries and currants aroma, astringent, with a dusty marigold accent. Cloudy orange, no head. Sour lemons and cherries flavor. Welcome oat malt and lemon peel finish. A sour with character. Very good beer!

draft at Brewvival. definitely one of the top 5 beers at the festival. pours a hazy, yellow-gold with a soft, pure white head and light lacing. aroma is wonderful with huge, sour cherries, tart red berries, red wine vinegar, barrel funk, and light earth with a beautiful balance of sweet florals, vanilla, and oak. flavor is, to quote my notes, "sick" with pure, funky, brett tartness, sour fruit notes of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry with hints of apple, lemon pulp, and light oak. palate is wonderfully sour and lip puckering with spritzy carbonation. if i’d not had Supplication a few days later, this would be the best sour i’ve ever tasted.

Draft sample pour @ Brewvival on 2/27/10. Amazing Sour! One of the best beers at Brewvival for sure... So glad that they got this beer out east for the festival!!! Deep hazy golden pour with a white head... Wonderful sour nose - nothing lacking here. Sour apple, lacto, funk, wood.... big sour body throughout... citrus twist on the end along with some more funk. One of the best sours I’ve had yet..... I want more.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2011 Brewvial best in show! I easily drank my entrance fee worth in the love at brewvival. By the end we were blending it with la follie. Hazy orange pour with a thin head. Aroma is cherry, lactic and lemon. This stuff is cantillon sour which is always nice. Lemon, cherry pit, oaky tannins, funk, leather, earthiness and lactic. Really well balanced, super sour and easy to drink. I hope i’ll get to drink this again some day

Draught at Toronado during RR -tion night. Hazy amber-brown with a small head. Very sour aroma with lots of oaky vanilla and cherry giving a cherry pie with flaky crust impression. Very smooth, yet intense sourness in the flavor with cherry and vinegar. Softly carbonated with a light body. Super integrated and smooth flavors, with very strong acidity that is somehow not astringent (relatively) or out of place. The low carbonation might actually be helping here, but more spritz would really have livened the palate up.

Draft @ Toronado. Pours a murky, reddish-apricot color; headless; deeply colored. Immensely funky aroma of cherries, lemony citrus, and large amounts of cherry-focused funk; awesome, impressively dense, funky. Medium body, but huge presentation: lots of funky citrus, cherries, pits and light tannins; hugely developed sourness here; high levels of acidity, light carbonation; lovely, slightly oily and hugely acidic sour; refreshing, highly sessionable, surprisingly great. Medium finish of cherry pits and lasting tartness; light, lingering tannins and fruit.

Draft at Sheffield’s. Pours a hazy bright glowing light golden/orange, unclear, fine fizzy head. Aroma is good but has some weird off-notes, bright and sweet, lactic, very sour, sweet and crisp, dusty gueuze like. Flavor is great, light and very sour, lactic, crisp, very clean, grapefruity, not super sweet, well attenuated, clean and refreshing. Lighter bodied, very sharp fine carbonation, crisp, quick finish.

draft at Sheffield’s in chicago. pours hazy orange-amber with white head. the nose is loaded with a wonderful buggy oak barrel with vanilla and peach. flavors have lots of oak with a nice funk to it, tart peaces, mild cherry, white wine notes with a lively carbonation and a thin body. wow this is awesome, great funk and oak notes with lively carbonation and nice sourness to it. this is easily one of the best beers i’ve had this year.
