On tap at Max’s (10/9/11): Pours an opaque black with dark ruby edges and a thin, stringy-lacing pink head. Has a fresh juicy tart raspberry nose with some black currant notes. Starts with good fullness and soft carbonation with a full sweet and tart raspberry flavor with some light vinous oak before a slightly drier sweet-tart finish. Has good raspberry flavor throughout.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 3fourths (7063) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - APR 29, 2011
i believe this is designed to be somewhat similar to their transatlantique kriek. body is dark eggplant color while the small, thin head is off-white to tan. earthy must (dirty) in the nose is a combination of raw, unsweetened berries with a small amount of charred oak and burnt cookie crumb. mild to medium tartness with medium-low acid and medium body, it’s a bit rough up front and seems to fizzle across the middle and back. the wateriness becomes strong in the short finish, comprised of the same charred wood, toasted cookie and unsweetened raspberry fruit character. not one of the better products.
