What’s that bite of tartness doing in a pumpkin beer? Adding the unexpected kick of cranberry juice to brighten this traditionally spiced seasonal ale. PUMPKICK is brewed with plenty of pumpkin juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, but it’s the cranberries and touch of lemongrass that send your tastebuds sailing.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a hazy, dirty gold with a one finger white head that fades quickly to just some spotty fizz on the surface of the beer. Aroma is on the weak side but consists of some yeasty cinnamon and clove with some light fruity notes thrown in. More light spice on the taste with ginger showing up. The fruityness is still there which I feel is caused by the yeast rather than hops. It definitely has that New Belgium character to it which is not bad, but not that great either. Overall, just a very average, run of the mill pumpkin ale. Quite sessionable but all around unremarkable.

Pours a reddish amber color. Notes of pumpkin spice, burnt bread, and citrus juice. Comes across sweet and watery.

Nice spice aroma and taste. Pretty well balanced and spice doesn't overpower and is not fake. Get slight cranberry hint which seems like a nice addition. All in all a good pumpkin beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Nutmeg, allspice and ginger aroma as well as pumpkin. Pours orangish with a thin, white head with moderate lacing. Pumpkin and the aforementioned spices to start. Finishes smooth with a bit cranberry tartness that stays on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A vigorous pour into my teku glass produces a three finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer smells of ginger, nutmeg, rounded allspice, and just a lot of floral spice character that domiinates the nose of the beer. There is quite a bit of woodiness to the spice character as well.

The beer has as soft caramelized malt character to it up front, almost an English biscuit like note, and then the spice character starts to kick in; the spices are more rounded and integrated than the in-your-face presentation from the aroma. Woody allspice and nutmeg are joined by a ginger bite in the finish. The beer has a light tartness to it, but I would be hardpressed to guess either lemon grass or cranberries where used here. The finish, as the beer warms up, has a soft sweetness to it that definitely brings out the pumpkin pie like flavors to this beer. The body has a soft chewiness to it that works well with the spice levels used here, and doesn’t allow them to become overly sharp or harsh.

This is definitely a spice dominated beer, but still enjoyable enough if you are into pumpkin beers. Depending on my mood, I can definitely be up for a pumpkin beer, and luckily enough, right now I am.
