A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampantís finish is bone-dry.

Tap at Burger Moeís. Straw colored with a white ring. Lime rind, grassy, citronella and biscuits. Momentary malty sweetness with a bug spray finish. Medium with light sticky feel. Glad it wasnít a six pack...

Iíve been drinking a lot of this beer. I think itís sitting right there on the edge of Imperial for me. I guess it could go either way. Itís got a great hop presence. Very Centennial heavy. Reminds me of Two Hearted, but amped up. Not a bad thing. Aroma is really hoppy, floral. Flavor is moderately bitter, citrus, finish is nice and dry. This is what I want from IPA in general. Dry. bitter, and good citrus character. The strength prohibits more than one on a weeknight for me, but ounce for ounce this is a great beer deal. $10 for a sixer of very fresh, 8.5% IPA is hard to beat.

This has become a go-to beer for me since itís readily available (and not too expensive) at the local grocery store. The body is clear and golden with a (usually) foamy head that leaves behind a thick, slippery lacing. The aroma is pungent, earthy with grasses and herbs and a touch of nectarine. Itís definitely hop dominated with grasses, bitter herbs, and a light touch of peach and peach pit. The soft malts give just enough of a backbone to support it all. It finishes quite dry, leaving a peppery bitterness on the tongue. Nice.

Pours a dark golden color with a huge white head that never goes away and sticks to the sides of the glass. Aroma is huge hops, dirty, earthy, wet dog hops, with a light malt background. The taste is strongly earthy, with a hint of citrus, nicely balanced with a cereal malt. The finish is a little bitter but not overly so. Pretty good and easy to drink IPA.

Pours a clear golden yellow with a thin, white head with large bubbles. Aroma is a slightly sweet with a mild bread, tropical fruit, and resin. Taste is on the bitter with notes of pine, resin, tropical fruits, and a slightly sweet, resin finish. Medium body and carbonation. Resiny/syrupy texture. Overall tasty.

Rampant is an aptly-named brew. This hop-forward ale gives you piney, citrusy, earthy, and slightly fruity aromas on the nose, and flavors of peach, ginger, and a subtle candy sweetness from the malt. Most of all, though, Rampant showcases pure hop taste. Pungent, bitter, and clean. In fact, this brew seems more bitter than its 85 IBUís would indicate. In the end, Rampant isnít the ballsiest, most expertly balanced, or most innovative Imperial IPA. And thatís totally fine. Itís an excellent hoppy beer from a fantastic brewery. Damn easy to drink, too.
