A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant’s finish is bone-dry.

Pour clear golden with a large soapy white head. The aroma has sweet malt along with tropical fruit, pine, powder and some citrus. It has a medium / light body with fairly mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. The taste is much drier than the aroma with crackers and mildly toasty malt. This is a nice pine aspect along with grapefruit and tropical fruit hoppiness. The finish is quite bitter and hoppy with more pine and pleasing hops. There is some light warm alcohol, but not as much as many IIPAs. Nicely done for a six pack version of the style.

Bottle... Poured pale golden with a thick, frothy, white head. Nice retention and lacing. Nice pine andresinois earthy hop nose. Aroma came through in the flavor with a nice balance so that any bitterness was over powering. Pine, black pepper spice, resinous hops and a dense earthy spice. Clean finish, a little short in the finish.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain, wort), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin, apricot), with moderately strong notes of plastic, sawdust, varnish, modeling glue (toluene), vegetables (turnip?). Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. Highly phenolic, icky nose that the hops struggle to stand out in (and what hops are there smells mostly like raw resin, yawn). Not as dirty in the mouth, but still overly sweet and boozy. Truly awful.

Fresh growler. Pine forest aroma off a clear copper pour with a nice white head. Starts off sweet malt then resinous pine dominate with a long pithy linger. NBB keeps upping its game folks.

Pours a light orange/amber with sizable off white head. Floral and citrus hops on the nose, with something a bit funky along with the always evident New Belgium yeast strain in the taste. Decent, dry finish. Not too sweet, not too malty. Okay.

12 ounce bottle, best before 21JUL13 stamped on label. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a mostly clear golden/orange color with about a half inch white head. There’s also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells mostly like grassy and spicy hops, along with some light tropical fruit. The taste is balanced between citrusy (orange, tropical fruit), grassy, and spicy hops, and some peaches and sweet malt. Nice bitter hoppy finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick with a good amount of carbonation. I think it’s a good brew, I liked it.

This is one of the easiest drinking imperial pale ales I have had. Pour is copper in color with a large white head that pillows and last. Aroma is crisp, clean and hoppy. Very flavorful but not a taste bud killer hoppy and a little sweet. Flavor stay on your palate but in a good way.

Rampant is a fine beer to bring to your wife's friend's house for brunch. It will be widely enjoyed with little pushback. Among dudes that wear shirts with a hop pun on them, this beer will be scorned.

Very light yellow gold in color. Super light and transparent for an Imperial IPA. Expected darker. This is super light. Nose of honeycomb and pine cone. Graham cracker, light cereal and malt. Mellow. Easy drinking. Doesn’t strike me as Imperial. Good though. Not complex.
